5.0 out of 5 stars Surreal and engaging. April 16, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I caught the Red Paintings live with The Dresden Dolls a few years back, and I was in love. Their live act was a bizarre mash-up of Alice In Wonderland, Geisha girls, and a huge, improvised mural on the wall behind their stage. Their music is layered and surreal, at times atmospheric and brooding, with bursts of emotional frenzy.

If you are into rock groups that definitely move against the grain and present the listener with complexity and emotion, specifically darker emotions, I highly recommend this album and group.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's about time March 20, 2014

We have been hearing a bit about the disappearance of "albums" that tell a story around a central theme and that those are becoming rare. The Red Paintings revive the idea with a story that gets bigger every time I listen to it. While it might be a flash in the pan, it's definitely one that is worth hearing and having in a collection.
