I was somewhat annoyed that the price of the kindle version of this book was so much---I mean, it costs virtually nothing to produce. Still, I wanted the e book and so I paid for it. I would do it again, it was worth it to me---but I know a lot of kindle readers will be put off by the price.

I have all the rice diet books. I have done the rice diet off and on for a long time. I don't know why it makes me feel so good, but it does. However, staying on it very long is rough. I always enjoy the books because I love to read about the truly miraculous recoveries in them---and the people running this program are not quacks---they are at Duke and are doctors or well-educated professionals. I have said and will say again, it should be called something else because it sounds like foolishness---like the banana diet or the tomato diet. And, the research behind the rice diet is just so phenomenal. It works.

I am only into chapter 3 but I ran across a story in chapter 2 (I think) that was worth the price of the book. A woman had left the rice diet program and returned and was even in better shape. And when Kitty asked her what she was doing, she said she had a weekly rice day. Now, I can manage a weekly day. I have something I love which I call Christmas rice and it's just organic brown rice (which you can buy cooked and frozen) and cherry tomatoes and avocado. I love it and I only eat it when I am on the rice diet because that way I look forward to it. So, doing the one day a week is a great idea---she describes it as a detox day---but in the past weeks of doing it, I find it is more of a focus day. By that, I mean that when I do the rice day, I also rest and find relaxing things to do. I pray and bathe and listen to music and read---just sort of re-energize.

I think this is a good book if you have read the
original diet as it does not go into a lot of detail
about the diet, but it does cover all the aspects of
trying to lose weight. I really watch my sodium after
going through this book and it does help lower my
appetite and with out caffeine I do sleep better.
It seems like a good diet as it lets you have bread,
lots of fruit and veggies, but very little meat.
I think it is a diet someone could stick to for a long
time.

I found this to be the best of Kitty Rosati's three outstanding books on weight loss and optimal health. The Rice Diet Renewal is the most holistic of the three, making clear that achieving optimal health and weight is as much a spiritual and emotional journey as a way of eating. I have read all of the author's books, and I have attended the Rice Diet program in Durham, North Carolina several times; I recommend doing both to all those who can. For me, it has been a path to true healing of the addictive eating patterns that used to plague me.

One of the stories in The Rice Diet Renewal helped me a great deal. Building on what someone quoted in the book said, I came to realize that when I minimize (not eliminate) my exposure to sugar and salt, my food cravings and my desire to overeat almost disappear. Realizing that was quite amazing to me, and it has led to such first time wonders as my recent, painless loss of three pounds during the holiday season.

To me at least, the "rice diet" is not really a "diet." It's a vegan, organic lifestyle that respects the work of people such as Michael Pollan, and Drs. Ornish, Weil and MacDougall, as well as others who focus on improving our environment by eating local, whole foods. When I say it's not a diet, I mean that if my primary foods are fruits, vegetables and whole grains, I can still eat a cookie or have a latte occasionally without interrupting my progress. I don't count calories, and I don't eat in a regimented way.

The Rice Diet Renewal puts it all together: great recipes, exercise, connecting with the spiritual and with whatever emotional healing we may need. It shows how to do the program at home. Using this approach you can lose large or small amounts of weight, and become much healthier in the process.

I ordered this book because I was too lazy to find my copy of the original and because I wanted to see if there were any updates to the diet. After three times through, I still can't find the diet. If you're really interested, find a used copy of the original. This book is for the mental healing, new age stuff, it's not focused on the diet at all.

my husband finds this diet easy to stick to so when i ordered a book for myself, i purchased this one for him. i hoped for more food tips but when he got to the part about keeping a dream board, he lost interst. great book for those looking for touchy, feely, not so great for guys.

This is a diet/spiritual adventure combo book. There are better spiritual awakening through the body books and better diet books, and the nutritional info is a little dated. I give it an "ok"; there are some nuggets. Since I had bad experiences with the Rice Diet Cookbook by the same author, I didn't bother doing anything with the recipes in this book since they looked substantially the same.
