Book Description

Unceremoniously dumped by her latest boyfriend, violinist Grace Richmond is told she is too easygoing, a pushover. So she swaps her eclectic clothing for power suits, pins up her wayward curls and acts tough. Voila! New Grace is born. But the fine line between assertive and obnoxious eludes her. Her new persona seems to be generating greater problems---particularly in her relationship with her attractive new neighbor. Can she let down her guard long enough for him to see the true Grace---clumsy and soft though she may be?

Recently divorced sci-fi writer Harry Birmingham just wants a quiet life in suburbia with his eight-year-old son, William, and their dog, Woof. He swiftly discovers two things---his new home is next door to a practicing musician, and Woof howls when he hears a violin. Intent on peaceful cohabitation, Harry is alarmed to meet a woman frighteningly reminiscent of his ex-wife. Grace is aggressive, prickly, and downright rude, even if she is gorgeous. But Harry wonders if he's missing something---William and Woof adore her. Is there more to Grace than meets the eye?

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Grace has just been dumped. Did she lie, cheat, or steal? No, she's too nice. After a friend observes that Grace lets everyone walk all over her, Grace decides to toughen up. A violinist in Sydney, Australia, she dresses more professionally for the symphony, and if she has a problem with someone, she lets him know about it. So when a new neighbor, the famous science-fiction writer Harry Birmingham, moves in next door with his large dog, he meets no-nonsense Grace and isn't impressed because she reminds him of his strident ex-wife. Harry and Grace always seem to rub each other the wrong way. But Grace can't keep up the facade forever, and Harry gets glimpses of the real Grace. Even then, circumstances intervene with enough frequency that it seems that because they started off on the wrong foot, it will stay that way in Rose's sweet and charming story. Maria Hatton

3.0 out of 5 stars The Right Cord January 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have downloaded at least 250 books since Mother's day 2012, I have to say I have managed to read almost 200 of them. This one was a slow read for me. I had a hard time getting involved with the two main people in the book. Trust me I tried. I wanted to delete it half way thru.. just to end it. Maybe it's me...

5.0 out of 5 stars The right book! June 13, 2007
Format:Hardcover
This was not an easy book to put down. Dinner suffered the kids dog and husband all stood at my chair waiting for me to finish. "Finished yet."they would ask. "Just let me finish this chapter." I would say not looking up. Find a quiet corner for this one you wont want to be disturbed.
I enjoyed and loved the characters, the story flowed so easily that reading the book was a pleasure. I look forward to reading Elisabeth Rose's next Avalon book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fairly typical romance February 8, 2013
By Quinn
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Don't get me wrong, I like a good romance, and while I didn't mind this one, I actually didn't like the female character. First of all she was sweet natured but turned into a not so nice person, while trying "toughen up". I found her rude and quite nasty at times, and I figured if anyone treated a man as she did, he would run a mile, and never look back. Lucky there was a happy ever after in this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable November 20, 2012

From the very first page you knew how it would end.
Very predictable, a light and kind of boring story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice reading December 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Romantic, sweet and a lovely reading.
The mix that is offered by the author makes us think that we're gonna face a different ending, but she makes it even more beatiful than the predictable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even one star April 15, 2013
By Eileen
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I didn't get very far into this short book. There was nothing about the main character that pulled me in. She was actually kind of annoying so I deleted the book without finishing it. Don't waste the dollar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely romance June 5, 2008
By KirstyC
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Thank Ms Rose for taking the time to write such a lovely book. I enjoyed the characters - the imperfections that made them so interesting, and that made their happy ending so special. A satisfying read with just the right mix of drama and humour. I look forward to reading more of your books.

I liked the authors writing and the story. I wish it had more than a novella though, the story was done too soon.
