About the Author
David Atrops graduated with a B.A. degree from Concordia Senior College, Ft. Wayne IN, in 1964 and graduated with a M.Div. degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, St. Louis MO, in 1968. He served as a pastor of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Idaho, Washington, and California and is now retired and living in Redding CA. He and his wife Linda have 4 children and 11 grandchildren. Pastor Atrops wrote this study guide because he believes this epistle is the most important book of the Bible for properly understanding the Gospel of Jesus Christ. According to this epistle the Gospel can be understood as the righteousness of God granted to us by the grace of God on account of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ and received by us through faith. A study of this epistle will teach Bible students how to properly use Law and Gospel, for the Law convicts us of sin and drives us to the Gospel wherein we receive the grace of forgiveness and the freedom to live new lives by the Holy Spirit. This guide book uses the ESV version of the Bible. It includes notes on every verse as well as brief commentaries to transition from section to section. Discussion questions are provided at the end of each chapter for the sake of group Bible study. The latter part of the book offers a topical review of the epistle.
