Just got one before Thanksgiving and have been using it every day as I do a ton of cast iron cooking (ok I cook almost everything in cast iron - as well as restoring the stuff). I really wasn't sure how I'd feel about this as I've used plastic, steel, and other types of scrub brushes to clean iron and get off the sticky bits for years.
So when I say I'm impressed I really mean it. This is the easiest method of scrubbing cast iron that I've yet found, and it works well on stuck on food on my steel pots too. Wouldn't have thought it was going to be good. It pretty much glides over a well seasoned finish without damaging it and removes debris from the surface easily. My feeling is that this one well designed product - thought out rather than slapdash made, easy to maintain and clean and a joy to use.

Even though it's a lot more expensive than some other types of scrubbers it looks like it won't need to be replaced for years.

The other reviews posted have given the scoop about how well this little bit of chain mail works on cast iron. And they're right, it's the bomb for cast iron. But wait, there's more!

I have quite a bit of carbon steel and clad stainless steel pots and pans in addition to my big cast iron skillet. In fact, almost all of my cookware is some form of steel. The Ringer XL works like a charm on them, too. This morning I cooked breakfast sausage patties in my 10" Calphalon Tri-Ply frypan. The Ringer scrubbed it clean in a flash, with no "elbow grease" required. I used it last week on my 8 quart soup pot to remove burnt chili. A quick soak did half the work, then I used the Ringer just as I would use a sponge, with a little dish soap, and the pan was sparkling clean. Once again, no effort was needed. Who doesn't like easy?

Not only does this product do exactly what it says it will, it's made right here in the USA by a very nice man who sent me a lovely note of thanks for my purchase. And it's musical, too! Every time I use, it makes happy chiming, sliding, shimmery sounds. Buy it and experience the joy for yourself.

UPDATE 1/20/14- Tonight I baked shells and cheese in a glass baking dish. Some of the cheese was stuck on the outside of the pan, and stayed on after soaking. My nylon brush didn't get it all, and a sponge was useless. Enter the Ringer XL! I figured it was on the outside, so a few scratches would be no big deal. Cutting to the chase, the Ringer took it right off and didn't scratch the glass at all. That's one more kitchen item this little scrubber cleans. Seriously, I like the Ringer more and more every day. It has made doing the dishes much, much easier, and it's so much more sanitary than any other scrubber. Someone (are you listening, Mr. Developer?) needs to make one out of a material that's safe to use on dishes and other scratch-prone items.

I've been using steel wool scrubbies, but they only seem to last for a few uses and are extremely messy with all the steel fibers in my sink and on my hands, not to mention the rust spots they leave in my sink. This chain mail works perfectly... it has enough abrasion to remove all the stuck on pieces. It works great at removing the remaining crud after restoring an old pan using electrolysis. It dries fast and doesn't rust. It's also a good size (several of the reviews for another chain mail scrubbie product mentioned that the other product was a little too small..... this XL cast iron cleaner is just the right size... just about enough for me to ball up in my hand and really scrub)

i used to either use lots of elbow grease or a 3M washing pad scrubber for those heavy caked on mess on my cast iron pots/pans OR for the really bad stuff, a stainless steel wool scrubber... all of which is bad for the seasoning so I'd have to go through my ritual of reseasoning all my pans... which was needless to say a PITA!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this product, but after using it a few times, it really works as advertised and very well. I would have given it 5 starts expect for the logo attached to the item which is a circular piece of stainless steel with sharp edges which scratched my pans when using the product. I ultimately cut it off...

I'd had another chainmail sitting in my wish list but then I noticed this new listing. This one, The Ringer XL, is made of the same material but is larger (for a better scrunched up grip) and even costs a bit less. Sold me! I love this Ringer XL! It's well constructed with very nice workmanship and of a material that will not rust, easily rinses clean, and dries fast. It's easy on the hands and fingernails while holding it to scrub with it. For use on cast iron cookware it can't be beat. Can be used with water (don't forget to dry that pan well) OR it can also be used dry to scrub off any spots and just finish up by wiping with a dry or oily paper towel as needed. It will also wet scrub other types of cookware/dishware without damaging the surfaces or your hands. I highly recommend this product for anyone cooking with cast iron as well as anyone having to wash dishes by hand!

I always wondered how to properly clean my cast iron skillet. It was somewhat of a pain in the butt after cooking scallops or a steak. Paper and towels never really did the trick. Then I found this little gadget. The ringer works well and gives the pan a nice shine and surface.
I recommend this to anyone!
