This is such a powerful story of forgiveness, redemption and how God loves us no matter what. A lot of us try to find that one true love and want someone to love us and that is what Desiree was looking for, but she found out the hard way that jumping into a relationship with every man you met is not the answer. She had a very hard life but her friends were always there for her and even though she didn't realize God was always there.

There were some parts that were very hard to read because I went through some of that (watching my mom be abused), but it reminded me how God can take an awful experience and turn it in good. Desiree realized that at the end too.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Francine Rivers and Nicholas Sparks look out! If you enjoyed Nicholas Spark's The Last Song, you will absolutely love, love, love The Road Home! I did! I did not want to put the book down! Have you ever read a book that you did not want to stop reading? But then when it was over you did not want it to end? Well, The Road Home is one of those books! This story has drama, suspense, romance! Very believable. Very relatable. A very good read. The characters are so realistic. Very well written. I could see the action happening as I turned each page. I was drawn into this book from the beginning. And enjoyed every moment. I was hanging on every word. I enjoyed reading The Road Home so much that I would love to see it turned into a series and a movie! It is a treasure, and you will want to read it again and again!

The Road Home does a fantastic job of covering the greatest mistakes we as humans can ever make, and addressing each one delicately and concisely, and reaffirming the truth that no sin is greater than God's forgiveness. It is the life story of Desiree, from her years in college to her deathbed, and the struggles she faces with pregnancies, relationships, marriage, and forgiving those that have not only hurt her, but her children. With the ever-constant presence of her closest friend, Aimee, Desiree slowly makes her way to God and learns the greatness of His power and love.

My only frustration with The Road Home is that at times the writing feels rushed, like Matos is composing an objective synopsis rather than letting a dramatic scene unfold. The book is 183 pages, but holds all the potential to easily be 4-5 times the length by delving into the deeper emotions and development of the characters and creating dialogue from scenes that sometimes seem to only summarize an event. I guess I'm sad that I didn't have more to read.

Matos' characters are all very relatable and very human, reminding us that even those we think lead perfect lives have struggles, doubts, and secrets they try to forget. I would recommend The Road Home to any romantic, any lover of books, anyone struggling with forgiveness, anyone.

Desiree is one tough cookie. She subscribes to the theory that Girls Just Want to Have Fun. And fun she has until her indiscretions land her directly into the role of Single Mom. Best friend, Aimee, is always coming to her rescue and continues to do so as long as needed.

Aimee is a constant positive influence in Desiree's life, gently demonstrating God's love and mercy. Desiree's absent father and emotionally/geographically distant mother have left her cold and disinterested in what God has to offer. She's been looking for love in way too many wrong places.

Just when Desiree thinks all of her problems are solved by marrying Sergio, her troubles are just beginning. She has no idea how twisted he actually is.

This book certainly held my interest straight through to the very emotional ending. It is a story of friendship, love, spiritual need, compassion for others, and a reminder that our blood family members are not chosen by us, and we may not agree with their choices--but we love them in spite of differences and need to show them grace. Not one of us knows when we will be called Home, so don't waste time on bitterness and lack of forgiveness.

What a story! This sweeping chronicle of Desiree's life grabbed me from page one, and I marveled at all she was able to endure. Her journey toward forgiveness, though marked with many sorrows, stirred my heart. It left me with the same feeling I had at the end of watching 'The Notebook', which was, "Let's do that again."

This is a remarkable story of family, love, betrayal, wantonness, homosexuality, incest, spousal abuse-- and the love of God that covers it all. First and foremost, it must be clear that this is Christian fiction, unabashedly so. It tells of God's prevenient grace-loving and calling to us before we even acknowledge His existence. It shows the ways God works in our lives by providing people along the way to guide and love us into relationship with Him. It also shows that there is no unredeemable sin, God's willingness to forgive the unforgivable, and our call to do so also. As Aimee explained to her son, "this life is a journey to learn some things and then go to live eternally with Him (Jesus)".

The story opens with the imagery of a woman expecting her lover, trying to remove the impediment to his coming for her. Desiree is dying and reflecting on the emotional milestones of her life and the foolish choices she made while trying to find happiness. It also portrays her discovery of perfect peace and joy in the presence of the Lover of her soul. By the end of her examination of her life, we have come to know not only Desiree but a wealth of interesting characters: Aimee who always was there to clean up Desiree's messes and love her unconditionally, Nate who sweetly wanted to be Aimee's hero -and was. Mrs. Adams with her blunt, salty language, open-hearted acceptance, and beautiful explanation of forgiveness. Her husbands, so very different from each other, and her children.

Many controversial subjects appear in the novel, but the overriding theme seemed to me to be to let God be God. I loved the comment--"I'm so glad that you're not God and that I'm not at your mercy...." Forgiveness and acceptance and allowing God to be the judge of our and other's choices are powerfully demonstrated in this story. I enjoyed getting to know Desiree and her "family", and recommend the book to anyone looking for hope and redemption and a reason for faith.
