In Australia...a U.S. Air Force computer operator receives a terrifying radio transmission out of Ayers Rock that knocks out the world's communications.

In New Mexico...a boozy college engineering professor is suddenly escorted into a waiting car by two armed military men.

In New York...a tall, slender woman leaves her husband a note on the refrigerator saying that she's leaving -- but can't tell him where she's going.

In Colombia...a Special Forces officer breaks into a drug kinpin's bedroom and puts a bullet into a woman's brain before running to a waiting helicopter.

And in England...a beautiful twenty-three-year-old mathematician prepares for a journey that will change her life forever.

The team
assembles in Australia on a mission that can save the world. But first, they must figure out who is the message coming from? What are they trying to tell mankind? And can it be deciphered in time before Armageddon overtakes the world?

It’s about a bomb, it’s about a world about to be shattered. It’s about the last few days they have to save us all.

About the Author

NY Times bestselling author Bob Mayer has had over 50 books published. He has sold over four million books, and is in demand as a team-building, life-changing, and leadership speaker and consultant for his Who Dares Wins: The Green Beret Way concept. He is also the Co-Creator of Cool Gus Publishing. Bob Mayer grew up in the Bronx. After high school, he entered West Point where he learned about the history of our military and our country. During his four years at the Academy and later in the Infantry, Mayer questioned the idea of "mission over men." When he volunteered and passed selection for the Special Forces as a Green Beret, he felt more at ease where the men were more important than the mission. Mayer's obsession with mythology and his vast knowledge of the military and Special Forces, mixed with his strong desire to learn from history, is the foundation for his science fiction series Atlantis, Area 51 and Psychic Warrior. Mayer is a master at blending elements of truth into all of his thrillers, leaving the reader questioning what is real and what isn't. He took this same passion and created thrillers based in fact and riddled with possibilities. His unique background in the Special Forces gives the reader a sense of authenticity and creates a reality that makes the reader wonder where fact ends and fiction begins. In his historical fiction novels, Mayer blends actual events with fictional characters. He doesn't change history, but instead changes how history came into being. Mayer's military background, coupled with his deep desire to understand the past and how it affects our future, gives his writing a rich flavor not to be missed. Bob has presented for over a thousand organizations both in the United States and internationally. He has taught organizations ranging from Maui Writers, to Whidbey Island Writers, to San Diego State University, to the University of Georgia, to the Romance Writers of America National Convention, to Boston SWAT, the CIA, Fortune-500, the Royal Danish Navy Frogman Corps, Microsoft, Rotary, IT Teams in Silicon Valley and many others. He has also served as a Visiting Writer for NILA MFA program in Creative Writing. He has done interviews for the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Sports Illustrated, PBS, NPR, the Discovery Channel, the SyFy channel and local cable shows. 5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting science thriller February 21, 2002
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The back of the book labels "The Rock" as a science thriller. This is an accurate description as it's a combination of science fiction and techno-thriller. While similar to his other books (Area 51, Atlantis, etc. -- published under a pseudonym), this one grabs you at the beginning and doesn't let go.

Five people from across the planet are summoned to a secretive meeting with no idea of what is to happen. They soon learn that a transmission has been received with their names included. Other scientists, the military, the Russians and the President eventually get involved. What results is a race against time to preserve the future of the human race. The resolution is well presented and has a definite sci-fi feel to it.

If you enjoy the other novels by this author, you will definitely enjoy this one as well. It's a quick and easy read that can be completed in one sitting. If you find this work entertaining, check out the novels by James Rollins for other "science thriller" works.

Enjoyed reading this book so much I went out and bought his other 3 books.

As a woman in my 40's you might not think I would be reading an adventure book such as this with all it's fighting and killing, but a book that makes you think about the past, present, and future all at the same time by using national sites and recent events, for it's story line, had me wonder "what if" this really happened? Would we be able to stop it? Can we stop fighting long enough to help mankind or would our bickering get in the way? (like in the book)

Try his other books too, he had me wondering about our historical events so much that I am thinking about looking up past events in history to view them in a different light. Is his book fact written in fiction form? You be the judge.

I do encourage you to read his other books in order, because even though his books can stand alone, it's better if you get to know each character. Looking forward to seeing what happens to each one as the stories progress.

Ladies if you are looking for a mushy love story you won't find it here, but if you want adventure, suspense, thrills and sci fi all rolled into one book, don't wait any longer buy it!!!

I first read Doherty's Area 51 books, but then found The Rock. A wonderful book that rivals any book I've ever read. The plot jumps around, but that only helps to keep your interest because you're constantly thinking about what has happened and what will happen. Also check out his web site for more information. He has wonderful many wonderful books including The Line, The Gate, and the Omega Missle. I highly recommend all of them.
