Can't wait to see what else is coming in the future--these are THE new standard! --Gary Moore, 95.5KLOS-FM

Product Description

The debut album by the Romantics is best known for the mega-hit, "What I Like About You," but other elemental pop anthems on the album, like "When I Look In Your Eyes" and "Girl Next Door," offer equally infectious doses of rock and roll energy.

Deluxe Vinyl Replicas by Culture Factory constitute high quality reissued compact-discs which reproduce all the components of the original LPs and are their exact replicas in compact-disc size (5.3 x 5.3 inches), with authentic single or gatefold cardboard jackets and paper sleeves. In addition to the above, each compact-disc Deluxe Vinyl Replica includes a black finish CD complete with the original label to give it the look and feel of the original record album. Culture Factory strives to achieve an authentic sound with the highest possible fidelity to the original studio masters. Our remastering process brings out the music's true dynamics and original clarity with low levels of noise. In the remastering studio the audio tracks are handled in the form of high-definition, 96Kz / 24-bit digital files for greatest preservation of fidelity. Signal compression is sometimes used to bring out frequencies that were absent or barely heard in the original recordings, and we use the least amount of compression possible. While sound perception varies greatly among individuals our vinyl replica CDs are designed to provide the optimal listening experience when using flat EQ settings. Brand new, original, factory-sealed, limited edition CD release.

The Romantics debut album was a pop-rock genre classic of American pop after the influence of the original
punk movement brought back shorter rocking songs after lengthy excesses of the mid-70s.

The biggest songs here of course are "What I Like About You" and "She's Got Everything". For those who bought
the original vinyl LP in high school at that time and wore it out, there are other songs we like to sing along
and dance to as well. Since it's only about 37 minutes long, it's just long enough to not wear you out too much
as all the songs run at around the same tempo (rocking) and start to sound the same by the time the album ends.

I've seen the band about 5 times over the years 1982-2012, and they are always a good rocking time, but some
periods were better than others. I have done reviews on Amazon of a couple of other releases by them.

I have a pretty decent stereo system to judge sound with so here are my observations on sound quality of this
LP-like package which states it's an "Audiophile Recording" digitally "remastered in high definition 96 kHz, 24-bit".
First of all, the original recording wasn't exactly audiophile to begin with. It was of the times. The first CD
release lacked dynamics and was too compressed. It would distort at high volumes. This new CD release does have
more dynamics but it's more of a function of boosting it up a bit, and adding some reverb (at least I think it sounds
that way). Through my Cambridge Audio CD player I compared the original 1980s one with the new 2012 one and yea,
it has improved and will be the one to buy, but still isn't the most pleasant to listen to at high volume as it
starts to fatigue the ears.

3.0 out of 5 stars What We All Like July 12, 2013
They may not have been the most original of the skinny-tie bands of the era, but when it came to pure hi-intensity energy, few could beat the 1980 debut album by Detroit's The Romantics. Fusing bar-band guitar fury with power-pop, this album contained the now classic "What I Like About You." While it may not have broken the top 40 for The Romantics themselves, it's become something of a sports-staduim and TV commercial staple.

This was The Romantics' original lineup of singer/guitarist Wally Palmar, singer/drummer Jimmy Marinos, guitarist Mike Skill, and bassist Richie Cole. (Skill would exit after the second album.) This was an album that reveled in the period's quick and dirty recording methods, as the album took a mere three weeks. It made the sound quality a bit spotty, like the way the harmonica overwhelms the audio in "What I Like About You" or the flatness of the drums overall. Still, that couldn't hold back the energy of "When I Look Into Your Eyes" or a cover of Ray Davies' "She's Got Everything." Red leather suits and all, "The Romantics" remains one of the better calling cards in the American New Wave movement.

There are, however, some problems with the Culture Factory re-issue that are frustrating (and drop my rating to a C). At the end of "What I Like About You" and "She's Got Everything," there's a digital hiccup of some sort that repeats a fraction of the second of the song's ending. I therefore can only recommend The Romantics to collectors and completists.

3.0 out of 5 stars Improved Sound with a Flaw May 10, 2014

The songs on this album I give 4 stars. This album contains some of the most excellent New Wave/Power Pop music from the 80's. The sound is improved from the original CD release considerably. However as stated in a previous review, there is a flaw or hiccup where a second of the song repeats itself at the end of a few songs - including What I Like About You. It's a minor nuisance and I was able to remove the hiccup by using AVS Audio Editor software and burning a new CDR. Not exactly what I would expect from a new CD but I was willing to live with it. Buy this with caution.
