Book Description

September 1, 2005

Finally—the ultimate diet for fast, safe weight loss, lifelong health, and longer life, based on more than twenty years of research and the latest findings on appetite and weight. Metabolic specialist Ron Rosedale, M.D., has designed the Rosedale Diet to regulate the powerful hormone leptin, which controls appetite and weight loss by telling the brain when to eat, how much to eat—and when to stop. New research shows that leptin may be one of the body's most important hunger control mechanisms. Control leptin, and you control your weight.

Most people's leptin levels are out of control, causing them to overeat and to store fat rather than burn it. The only way to flip the "hunger switch" back to normal is through a diet high in healthy fats and low in carbohydrates, saturated fat, and trans-fatty acids often found in processed food—plus just 15 minutes of daily exercise.

Dr. Rosedale's 21-day diet plan is simple: Just select from the many foods on his "A" list, including "healthy-fat" foods such as avocados, nuts, olives, lobster, crab, shrimp, goat cheese, Cornish game hen, venison, and more. Then gradually add foods from the "B" list, such as steak, lamb chops, fruits, beans, and so on. A 28-day menu plan and more than 100 recipes, such as Dilled Salmon and Fresh Asparagus, Gingery Chicken Soup, Lasagna, Black Bean Wrap, Raspberry Mousse Cake, and French Silk Pie, make eating the Rosedale way deliciously easy.

Weight loss is just the beginning. The Rosedale Diet will make you feel satisfied, reduce cravings, and put you in control of your "sweet tooth." It can even help eliminate or reduce heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and other conditions associated with "natural" aging, as many of Dr. Rosedale's patients can attest. You'll find inspiring stories from them—and the power to control your weight and improve your health—in this groundbreaking book.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

As more Americans become obese and are diagnosed with diabetes in record numbers, they continue to seek out new sources of healthy living advice and dieting tips. Those frustrated with South Beach, Atkins and the Zone may find a friend in the Rosedale Diet. Its founder, a nutrition and metabolism expert with a practice in Denver, has developed a diet plan that teaches people how to control leptin, the key hormone that regulates appetite and, say Rosedale and coauthor Colman, your ability to lose weight. They present their plan in two parts, first explaining the concept, and then providing advice for putting it into action. The Rosedale Diet encourages consumption of high-fat foods (good fats, of course—and they're to be eaten unaccompanied by sugar-forming foods), and doesn't insist that people count calories. Rosedale recommends supplements, too, asking readers to take 2,000 milligrams of glutamine before going to bed at night, and suggesting pregnenolone and phosphatidylserine for some. Even if readers aren't ready to plunge full-force into the Rosedale Diet, they'll benefit from such recipes as Dilled Salmon with Fresh Asparagus; Lobster Tails and Seaweed Salad; and Grilled Beef Fillet with Bell Pepper and Mashed Rutabagas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breakthru!! December 12, 2004
Format:Hardcover
I ate 6 months successfully according to the South Beach Diet (lost 10 kilograms and lots of fat), but suddenly I started to gain wait again, so I tried Phase 1 of Atkins, which worsened my situation; UNTIL I discovered and read the book of Rosedale; he explains why you should eat moderate quantities of protein (which I didn't do of course in Atkins Phase 1 ) ànd you should be careful with "normal" meat, because saturated fat cause a raise in leptin, which causes you to become fatter ànd you should eat LOTS of GOOD fats!! So I started to eat more fish, lots of olives and avocado's, lots of olive oil, nuts and less protein, and miracle oh miracle, I immediately lost fat and weight on the right places, WITHOUT any effort :-))

The key is leptin and Rosedale explain very well what leptin is, which type of food raises your leptin level, why that damages your health and even more important, he explains what you should and shouldn't eat in order to get your leptin in control again, with that comes weight and fat loss VERY EASILY

5.0 out of 5 stars To Lose Weight, Eat More Good-Quality Fat . . . September 7, 2004
Format:Hardcover
We all know people who seem to stay trim and fit on a high-carb, low-fat diet. But most of us also know folks who, no matter how hard they try, can't seem to make this "standard healthy diet" work. So they blame their weak willpower, or they throw up their hands and say they were born unlucky. If you're one of these, or you know someone who's in a losing battle against their appetite, this book is perfect. Ron Rosedale gives a clear-headed explanation about why . . . and how . . . changing to a diet that's low in starchy carbs and high in good-quality fats, can restore a body's natural ability to match appetite with energy needs, WITHOUT counting calories or exercising like mad. It may sound crazy, eating more fat to lose unwanted pounds and reverse disease, but read the book and see what you think. Considered one of the nation's deepest thinkers, when it comes to the links between nutrition and health, Dr. Rosedale gives clear explanations about why his dietary approach may help people get off of medications for high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and depression, to name a few. There are plenty of recipes, plus an extensive reference section of scientific papers. This book is bound to be controversial, since it challenges standard dietary thinking, which is another reason that it's exciting to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally in control of my life January 26, 2005
Format:Hardcover
I waited to add my review of `The Rosedale Diet' until I had some happy results to support it. Well I have achieved my first weight loss goal of -20lbs (20% of total) following this diet. I have tried just about every diet out there, and yes this diet is similar to the Adkins diet. However, whereas the Adkins diet was formulated as a diet, the Rosedale diet is so much more.

Dr. Rosedale formulated his diet plan for his patients, those with diabetes and heart ailments, to improve their health and longevity. Losing weight was just a side effect. So my original reason for buying this book was because diabetes runs in my family and I was guaranteed to be one myself. Although this is a low-carb diet, it differs from the Adkins diet as it is low protein and low saturated fat also. Excess protein is converted to sugar which will slow your weight loss and saturated fat will cause leptin resistance, a necessary hormone that will suppress your appetite when you are overweight. One side effect of the Adkins diet for me was low energy, sluggish thinking and upset stomach. This was caused by the higher protein intake.

On the Rosedale diet, I have lost on average, one pound a day and have not hit a plateau, a first for me. I do relax a bit on weekends, enjoying a small carb meal when eating out, so I usually break even come Monday morning weigh in. This is fine with me as it still results in a 3 - 4 pound weight loss during the week. Also this is no longer a diet for me, but a way of life. Not only have I lost weight, but am no longer stiff when getting up after sitting or laying down for a period of time. I have good energy and feel alert. For the first time in my 40 years, I feel in control of my diet and health. Thank-you Dr. Rosedale for changing my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Godsend October 16, 2004
Format:Hardcover
If you have tried every diet out there and have not been able to stick with it for more than a few days or even hours, then this book is for you. I have been overweight for most of my adult life. I have tried every diet out there, including the "healthy" Weight Watchers and the controversial Atkins. Except for Atkins, all of the diets I'd used before relied on 'healthy' carbs. Well, after reading this book, I understand just how bad whole wheat and supposedly good complex carbs can be for leptin resistant people. If you are obese, you're probably leptin resistant. Sooner or later, your willpower will weaken whenever you're feeding yourself the bad carbs, which include healthy grains. The Rosedale Diet is the first diet that I have been on for 8 solid days without cheating even one little bit. I have already lost 5 of the 50 excess pounds I'm lugging around. The reason, as Dr. Rosedale explains, is that I have become a fat burner, rather than a sugar burner. By following his diet, which allows you lots of high fiber carbs (unlike Atkins) and lots of good healthy fats and adequate proteins, you'll have your leptin (hormone) levels under control and becomne a fat burner too. Don't worry about the daily dose of cod liver oil. The first swallow of lemon flavored cod liver oil was surprisingly easy to get down. (modern methods have improved quality and storing it in the fridge prevents rancidity). I thank God that I'm finally going to be able to stick on this diet and rid myself of the ball and chain spelled F - A - T. Dr. Rosedale says that you'll feel so good you'll want to eat like this all the time as he does. Praise God for answering prayer!
