Editorial Reviews

2012 release from the Swedish quartet. Over the past year, The Royal Concept managed to catch the attention of the blog-o-sphere and play to rabid live audiences. 'D-D-Dance' reached #2 on Hype Machine, while 'Gimme Twice' hit #3. They began to pack houses in Sweden, selling out shows of their own. Lava Records founder and CEO Jason Flom was transfixed by the band's presence and sound from the second he first saw them, signing them earlier this year. ''You can't really put it into words,'' he affirms. ''There's an intangible magic to this band. A&R usually isn't this easy!''

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC show in Chicago ! October 24, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Hey everyone, time out, try telling your girlfriend or boyfriend they remind you of someone else and just see what good it does you.....Royal Concept (the actual them, the real guys, not another band they might sound like) was here in town last week TORCHING Lincoln Hall, what a great great show, a good old sweaty nonstop dance party!.....and they were only the warm-up to Wolf Gang, but could've equally been headliners themselves, and shall be soon enough.....terrific setlist, with huge momentum from the drummer and bass, and David's vocals reaching perfectly through the pounding room.....Guitars were outstanding.....crowd was completely worn out by the end of the show, faces wet and arms tired, the way it should be..... Chicago LOVES this band!!!.....Thank you, Sweden, and come back soon guys....

Sat. Nov. 30th, 2013..... DITTO at Bottom Lounge last night, the band even betterer than the last time i saw them!! helluva show, the crowd was electric eclectic apoplectic, we were busting down the winter blues with a sledgehammer....fabulous new songs in the mix, brilliant musicianship, these guys have been stepping up their attack.....Night to remember, even if you drank too much....Thanks M, F, P and DL for partying up this sleepy old town once again, and have a blast on your road trip!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the group? March 18, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If you do, you have to get this EP.

I really like the solid music and simple lyrics. I can't describe their music except as alternative pop/rock but not heavy rock.

Glad I found it.

Way to go Amazon!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Phoenix? Is that you? August 8, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Charles Caleb Colton once said: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Based on that, Phoenix should be extremely flattered.

To start with the obvious, The Royal Concept sounds a lot like Phoenix. A whole lot. So much so that I was stunned to hear the first track on the radio, "Gimme Twice," and learn that it was not Phoenix's new single. The song heavily features the Phoenix sound, to include the guitar riffs, the vocals, even the phrasing. But it works- "Gimme Twice" is an upbeat, catchy song that is probably the best on the EP.

"Goldrush", "Knocked Up" and "D-D-Dance" are all solid tunes. The EP is rounded out by "In the End," the only ballad on the EP.

I also detect a strong "The Strokes" influence in this band, especially "Goldrush" and "Knocked Up." Again, it works for them. Despite all of the heavy influences, it's not enough for any band unless you can write good music and this EP proves that The Royal Concept is more than capable.

I don't know a lot about this band but this is a solid EP and a nice debut for this group from Stockholm. I look forward to hearing how their sound evolves and I get the feeling that I'll be hearing a lot more about this band in the future. You can hear the potential is there for big things, as soon as they decide who they want to be.

I was playing NASCAR the game and a song popped up, I thought, wow, what is that? Did a music search, found Royal Concept, and have been a huge fan ever since!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yeah, well, it's better than Bankrupt! October 2, 2013
Format:Audio CD
The Phoenix comparisons are a tad annoying because this album (which unfortunately is lacking a few of their best songs) is far better than the last Phoenix album. I think of Phoenix, I think of The Strokes, but so what? I love those bands. So bring it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for an EP October 22, 2012
By G. Cole
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Stumbled across TRC via FIFA13 and snagged the album at a great price on a whim. Needless to say I'm not disappointed. If you like phoenix you'll like TRC.
