Book Description

The ultimate doomsday weapon: The top secret SHIVA Compression virus can automatically launch all U.S. nuclear missiles. Once released onto the nation’s communications networks, SHIVA cannot be turned off.

Air Force Lieutenant Perry Helion stumbles across a twisted cult that seeks to use SHIVA to produce an orgy of destruction. Perry and his team have only a few days to somehow stop the SHIVA virus from burrowing into the launch computers at every Minuteman missile base and sending the nuclear warheads arcing skyward to an all-consuming firestorm.

Perry and his colleague and former lover Jan Caplan find one Air Force officer who will listen: Ben Loyola -- a tough, old fireplug colonel who runs the Air Force’s Office of Special Materials. Perry and Jan join Loyola’s crack team, who have repeatedly done what was necessary to recapture stolen Soviet nuclear weapons. Now Loyola and his small group must join Perry to corral the most dangerous enemy yet: the relentless SHIVA Compression, a viral agent designed by the Cold War’s greatest scientists to ensure that even if America is left leaderless by a sudden “decapitation” attack, U.S. missiles will still be fired in retaliation.

A crazed atomic cult revives SHIVA and releases to “cleanse’ the earth of non-believers. They will do anything to carry out their insane plan. Perry, Caplan and Loyola must face down doomsday itself to save the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome suspense! April 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
"Many thriller novels have main characters who are highly competent special forces types. The kind of people you may admire, but who you can't really identify with. Perry Helion, the main character in The SHIVA Compression, however, is definitely not of that superhuman breed. Not that he's an incompetent klutz, but he has some issues. He's a pilot who doesn't fly and a soldier armed only with a pen and a notebook. But Perry rises to the task of fighting a shadowy, war-loving conspiracy. A group that has one twisted goal: launching American nuclear missiles against Russia. Perry finds his inner warrior and becomes the key player in the fight against the nuclear cabal. The SHIVA Compression is a suspenseful, fast-paced ride that hurtles headlong toward the abyss and we're never sure we won't go over the edge."

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting page-turner April 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
In the riveting techno-thriller novel, Shiva Compression by Tim Queeney, a complex viral worm has invaded the internet, threatening to take control and launch a first strike of America's Minuteman missile arsenal at Russia. As the plot explodes with intrigue and adventure from the very first page, a lackluster Lieutenant Perry Helion witnesses a nearly catastrophic accidental launch of a Minuteman missile and soon finds himself and his partner, Lt Jan Caplan, embroiled in the battle to stop the spread of the infectious and stealthy Shiva virus that is spreading throughout the internet and gaining control of the nuclear missile system. As the story unfolds, Helion finds that they are struggling against misguided factions within the Air Force whose perverted aims are to reignite the Cold War and thus rise again to positions of power and influence. In the protagonists' efforts to save the day, they ironically are pitted against government agents who cannot determine who are the good and who are the bad. Skillfully presenting cyber technology within an action-filled, fast-paced story, Queeney convincingly reveals what a wondrous creation the modern internet is, and yet how vulnerable it and our society are to the age-old evil that forever resides in the hearts of men. "WOW!" It truly is a page-turner. -Steve Coleman 4/6/12

5.0 out of 5 stars a sizzling read April 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Something missing from modern spy stories, like 'The Bourne Identity' movies for example, is the looming danger of nuclear war. It was this possibility of ending all life on Earth that gave Cold War stories a lot of their added sizzle. Luckily, The SHIVA Compression ties into this rich vein. The story involves a computer virus that is supposed to start WWIII automatically. In their race to stop the virus, the good guys steal an Air Force transport plane, shoot down a big bomber, expend a lot of ammo and generally create mayhem. The book has plenty of action and moves right along. And it has that thermonuclear end-of-the-world vibe that really ratchets up the tension.

More About the Author

Thanks for checking out my author page. I currently have three books for sale here on Amazon.

In The Atlas Fracture, the latest Perry Helion thriller, Perry is sent to investigate a pioneering scientific project in Antarctica that has gone strangely wrong. Once he's at the expedition site he finds himself pulled into a devilish terrorist plan that could wreak havoc in Antarctica and kill millions worldwide. Only Perry and a young woman scientist can stop the terrorist team.

The SHIVA Compression, the first book in the Perry Helion series is set in the late 1990s. In SHIVA, a small Air Force team led by Lt. Helion must stop a doomsday computer virus from starting WWIII.

The third book is a humorous historical fiction novel called George in London (yes, THAT George -- when he was 19 years and seeking his fortune in London -- okay, that never really happened, but the book is funny!).

In addition to writing books, I am a magazine editor, filmmaker, celestial navigation instructor, a dad and offshore sailor.

I live in Maine and can hear the fog horns of three lighthouses when the fog rolls in -- and when my black lab finds herself on the wrong side of the door.
