5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent thriller, an absolutely cracking read..., December 31, 2011

This review is from: The Saints Go Dying (Kindle Edition)
An excellent thriller, what a gem. It is one of those books that I had to read all the way through in one go. The writer managed to create an atmosphere of suspense, psychological tag and also the complete helplessness of the police system when it comes to ferreting out one serial killer in a city of millions. At the end I realised he had managed to do it without any over the top shootout, car chase or hang from the rooftop by the nail of your ring finger kind of action scenes. He created a need to know, a curiosity in the reader to find out what the main character would do next. I enjoyed the concept of having the cop be a computer nerd instead of a sweaty muscle bearing ex-marine with weapons hidden in his doughnuts. I thoroughly enjoyed the read, highly recommend it and look forward to the next installment I received a free copy of this book for my review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Okay I admit it!, October 10, 2011
This review is from: The Saints Go Dying (Kindle Edition)
I read this book without putting it down, not that it had a lot of action but just caught my attention. Beautyman is a different kind of cop, who loves his job and is willing to go to any extremes to catch a killer or killers as the case maybe. What would you do if you know who a serial killer was and didn't have enough evidence to made an arrest? If you are a Beautyman you use your hidden skills as a computer hacker and go to any extremes to make your case.

This was a good cat and mouse psychological drama that was entertaining and easy to read and follow without losing the suspense. The ending was very good and one that you would never ever expect would happen.

The only fault with this book was that I would have liked to know more of the personal back story about Beautyman, he was a very intriguing guy.

I would like to thank Mr. Hanberg, the author, for giving me a complimentary copy of his book. This copy was given to me with no obligation for a review but it was enjoyable and I do think it was a good story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hopefully the beginning of a new series, September 26, 2011
This review is from: The Saints Go Dying (Kindle Edition)
I found this book quite "catchy". While in some parts I had to force myself to stop reading otherwise I wouldn't have gone to bed before work, there was a couple of parts that didn't seem to flow as well. Overall I felt that Beautyman was a great character, willing to do almost anything to catch the bad guys, but so much more human because he does make mistakes and takes the consequences humbly. Looking forward to more in this series.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great mystery!, July 21, 2011
This review is from: The Saints Go Dying (Kindle Edition)
Loved this book. Characters are fun, plot is intriguing. Finished in 1 day!

Why it's not a 5 star: Relationships between main characters could have been further developed. Also, the reasoning/motivation of the killer was pretty weak.

Full disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Saints Go Dying=AWESOMENESS!!!, January 29, 2012

Are you looking for an edge of your seat thriller? A book that will hook you and keep you until the last page? A story that will have you reading it in ONE sitting? Well then, Erik Hanberg's well written, complex, and mysterious, yet humorous book, The Saints Go Dying is the one for you. It's the first in the Arthur Beautyman series, and it's a hit with me. I loved every minute of this suspenseful, humourous thriller.

Arthur Beautyman is not your average everyday detective. Nope. Not a bit. He does his crime solving in a whole different way, yet it's believable and fun to follow. Watching him as a hacker, watching him solve his crime with his whole self was awesome. I absolutely LOVED it! Catching a serial killer can't be easy but Beautyman makes it seem so! This is not a long book, but it's definitely addictive and easily read in one sitting. The way that Erik wrote this story and the way the story ended (I won't go into detail for I don't give spoilers!), you'll be surprised!

This is most definitely a high 5 Book worthy story and I am so happy that the author contacted me to review this. I loved every minute of this roller coaster ride, and I can't wait for more of these Beautyman Mysteries to release (which #2 is The Marina Murders and I am super excited to be able review that one, too!). Well, what are you waiting for? Grab your copy now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting with a twist...proof the good guys come out on top ;), August 30, 2011
This review is from: The Saints Go Dying (Kindle Edition)
I enjoyed the characters & "quirks" of the characters in this book. The story line was interesting yet not so complex that you lost sense of direction. Beautyman, the primary character, is vulnerable, sneaky & yet sincere & endearing. His approach to crime solving & the way he goes about getting it done aren't always on the up & up but that adds charm to the story. The concept of the mystery is interesting & carries enough weight that the other items that revolve around it are not lost. The direct approach about how police/police work are represented is solid and truthful to many of the default social interpretations that we have. The arrogance of the unsub in this makes your skin crawl & makes you route for the good guys.

I enjoyed this book enough that I am going back for additional books by this author. I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review & was instead gifted a good solid read & a new author to follow!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book. Enjoyed the twists..., July 29, 2011
This review is from: The Saints Go Dying (Kindle Edition)
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for a review.
The characters were realistic, the plot was believable, and the whole thing kept my attention. I look forward to other Beautyman books!
There were enough twists and turns throughout that you were never quite sure what would happen next or who would get in trouble for what. I really enjoyed the story, and would recommend it to friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Mystery, July 27, 2011
This review is from: The Saints Go Dying (Kindle Edition)
I really enjoyed `The Saints Go Dying'. I liked that the main character, Beautyman, was a hacker. He also was a gadget geek and made interesting use of readily available gadgets in the pursuit of the criminal. Beautyman is good at his job but he doesn't have confidence in his own job security. The novel is believable about the public view of police work, the television industry, and hackers. The story was wrapped up well with an interesting conclusion.
I am looking forward to reading another Arthur Beautyman mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different, July 24, 2011
This review is from: The Saints Go Dying (Kindle Edition)
This was a unique mystery. The timing of introducing the "killer(s)" was fascinating. I had not seen this before. It seemed to wrap up quickly at the end. I do look forward to the next book of Beautyman. I like the hacking techniques that Beautyman uses. An excellent read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, July 21, 2011
This review is from: The Saints Go Dying (Kindle Edition)
I was really blessed when I saw Erik asking me to review his book. My favorite genre is mystery, crime, thriller, suspense. Once I read the synopsis of this book, I was hooked. I was hoping beyond hope that the ending of this book would not leave me hanging like so many books I have read in the recent pass.

I read the 1st chapter of the book, and by the end of the first chapter I was laughing so hard my family was wondering what in the world I was laughing at! I then went and explained what I was laughing about and then they too were laughing as hard as I was. I then told my husband that this book was priority number one (1) because I just had to know what else was going on within the story.

Detective Beautyman had me. I liked how this detective thought, how he worked, and how he was willing to forgo everything to solve the case at hand. I personally did not like Sandy Ewson, which I do believe that Erik did very well in his writing to make us not like him.
I must talk about the ending. Since I mentioned at first that some of the books I have read recently have been...well...for lack of better word....lacking. Oh no, not this one. Erik had us reading every word till the end. It was such a thrilling ending. I love how the case ended and I like how Erik left it open for another Detective Beautyman tale. I cannot wait for the second one coming, and the greatest part about reading this on the Kindle, you get the very first (1st) chapter of his next book: The Marinara Murders.

The story that Erik winds within this novel keeps you guessing what is going on and who-done-it. The way he writes keeps you guessing. He winds the stories of everyone involved extremely well. You are not left wondering "Why is this character in the story?" "Where does this character fit in?"
The dynamic of all the characters are an awesome thing to read. I am so happy that I decided to read this wonderful book. It is everything I am looking for in this type of genre.

****I was given a copy of this book for my honest review****
