Education is a tough field to lead, with a lot of things to do and little money to fund it. "The School Board Fieldbook: Leading with Vision" is a guide to being a successful board leader that does much for one's district. Outlining the challenges these leaders face, from hiring other high level personnel to spotting warning signs and taking decisive action when needed, "The School Board Fieldbook" should be required reading for any entering a school board position.

This is a great resource. I have been carrying it with me for the last five days. Whenever I have time I read a bit of it.
The prospective of the writters is unique. It is really a "nuts-and-bolts" resorce.
I have suggested that the other members of my Board of Education purchase a copy. Even for a district that is "strapped" for funds it is a great investment
If you want to make your time as a BOE member profuctive this of this book as a great resource.

I bought this book because I was considering running for school board. I believe it did a nice job explaining how a school board member might want to think and act, but I did not feel it gave a very good understanding of campaigning or preparing to become a member of the school board.
