I happened to be very interested in the topic, so bought both books presuming that they were different. "The SCIENCE of Premonitions: How Knowing the Future Can Help Us Avoid Danger, Maximize Opportunities, and Create a Better Life" was released in May, 2010, where "The POWER of Premonitions: How Knowing the Future Can Shape Our Lives" was released in April,2009. Softcover/hardcover respectively. They are IDENTICAL inside. Only the cover titles are different. Now I have the hassle of having to return one of them. That being said, I still gave the book a five star. It's a terrific reference book, designed to educate rather than preach. I highly recommend it to anyone fascinated by the topic. It is written to entertain, inspire and challenge thinking, rather than to preach. The author takes the time to define words that may be specific to a school of study, allowing the read to be smooth and relaxed. He clearly documents studies done over the years on the different kinds of premonitions. While I was reading, I often asked myself: 'will he address [this or that]?, and he always did.
THE SCIENCE OF PREMONITIONS: HOW KNOWING THE FUTURE CAN HELP US AVOID DANGER, MAXIMIZE OPPORTUNITIES, AND CREATE A BETTER LIFE comes from a doctor who himself experienced a week of accurate premonitions about his patients - then lost it. Here he documents cases of premonitions - some involving entire communities - and offers a fine survey that includes field-tested techniques for inviting premonitions. Any general-interest library will find this a winner!
I'll tell you how much I like this book. I'm reading a copy of it from the library, but today I will be ordering a copy of it from Amazon.com. This is because this is one of the best books on paranormal phenomena I have ever read. The first 200 pages are some of the most fascinating stuff I've ever read. At the end of the book are 50 pages of footnotes, which means that almost all of the stories and claims are well documented with external references. This is a must-read for people interested in the topic of precognition.
This is one of those everyone must read books. This lists documented cases of preminitions and research that has been done on them. That is very exciting to me because most scientific minded folks just take an I don't believe aditude and don't try to investigate the issue. most of the premonitions in this book are dreams. I'd like to see a second book come out with tarot predictions, but someone doing any research at all is cool.
The Science of Premonitions and The Power of Premonition are actually the same book. Larry Dossey's world-view and his passion for scientific evidence are impressive. Dossey's other interest is the power of prayer. The two are connected by his world-view and both are supported by science, theoretical physics and case studies. You'll find all of Dossey's work interesting whether you agree with him or not.
