More About the Author

BE IT KNOWN THAT: We have locked Jeff Wheeler away in Muirwood Abbey for a couple of years and have commanded him to write many more adventuresome books. He is permitted free time to roam the grounds under heavy guard. After he has written enough books that we can scarcely read them all in a lifetime, we may finally become, in our old age, sated in our quest for new characters and lands. Perhaps then, all would be well in the kingdom.

This is an EXCELLENT series. He's one of the few writers I've seen who really creates characters you care about, has dialog that doesn't feel forced, and draws you into their world so completely that you can hardly put the book down. I had to take it to work and sneak in reading during breaks and lunch! My ONLY complaint is how he ends the book. Mind you -- it is NOT a BAD ending -- I just wanted MORE! His choice of where to end was a bit odd, I would have taken it just a bit further -- especially if he doesn't intend to pick this back up. Of course my hope is that he will write another book........and where he left it makes that logical -- I think if he does not, I may not be able to forgive him! Give us another Jeff!

If you haven't read the other two books -- you DO need to do so -- don't try to read out of order -- it really is a series and you'll miss a lot -- and they are also Excellent:
1. The Wretched of Muirwood
2. The Blight of Muirwood and then this one
3. The Scourge of Muirwood
All Available cheap (or sometimes free) on Amazon (no, I don't work for them!)

I don't come across a series very often that i am excited to read again-before the first book even ends. I don't re-read books that often in any case because i remember them for years. But with this series (i just finished the 3rd book)I can't wait to start reading it again! I have already bought the other two books available from Jeff Wheeler's other series. An author like this can't write enough as far as I'm concerned.
Mr. Wheeler's writing pulls you in and makes you a part of the story. You will feel connected with the characters and believe there really is a Muirwood out there somewhere-or at least wish there were. You can let your tweens read this without worrying about any inappropriate content. There is great romance, but nothing that i wouldn't want my 11 year old to read.
I can't wait to see what Mr. Wheeler writes in the future because i will definitely be buying it.

I read all three books very quickly. I would say they are young adult reading level.
Each book has a sufficiently good climax, making each a good self-contained story.
I enjoyed the world that the author created, I liked the use of magic and the love story. I liked the unfolding of Lia's personal history.

Warning: Spoiler Alert.

The magic in the books "The Medium" is almost exactly like The Force but with a much more Christian message.
The main character is a woman but unfortunately she is a woman that shows mostly "male" characteristics as she is trained to be a hunter and a fighter. All the other women in the book are manipulative, lascivious, sirens who exclusively work to ruin the world for selfish, greedy reasons. Oh, except for Lia's one friend Sowe, who is quiet and submissive and Ciana who is an object to be rescued or possessed. I kept expecting the terrible Blight and Lia's visions of the future to be averted by her actions, but nope, the future can not be changed and the world will be destroyed with just a few escaping on Noah's Arc... er, I mean "The Holk". Seriously, the end of the book is that LECHEROUS WOMEN DESTROY THE WORLD. And if you participated in any of the things that the Medium warns you not to do (drinking, dancing, kissing) then you deserve death. At one point Lia sighs while town folk are burned alive. "They should have listened to my warning." Totally insane.

I really can't recommend this book or series but it's not the worst thing I've ever read.

In The Scourge of Muirwood, the third and final installment of Jeff Wheeler's LEGENDS OF MUIRWOOD saga, Lia has discovered her true identity but is unable to tell anyone because the Medium has bound the information. Only a few people know and Colvin, the man Lia loves, is not one of them. While Lia broods about their relationship, she must be the Medium's tool to save the world and hope that everything turns out in the end. Several interspersed chapters are flashbacks which tell the story of the prince of Pry-Ree and his knowledge that his daughter would be the world's savior.

Readers who loved The Wretched of Muirwood and The Blight of Muirwood (and there are a lot of them leaving reviews at Amazon) will probably enjoy The Scourge of Muirwood, too. It's a darker story and it brings the series to a strange ending, though Wheeler leaves it open for future stories in this setting.

I've enjoyed Lia's story for the most part, but I've complained about the looseness of the plot and this becomes even more of an issue in this last novel. Things we thought were important get dropped or only play a small role in the plot. Other parts are difficult to swallow. For example, I never believed that Lia couldn't find some way of letting Colvin know she wasn't a wretched, or at least she could tell him that something important would be revealed that would let them be together. Also, [spoiler here, read it at FanLit]. There are several plot points like this -- they don't make sense and are only there to increase tension.

Yet there are other times when Wheeler deliberately and unrealistically reduces tension.
