I partly had to review this just because of the one star rating the other person gave. I love this album. It is one of those albums I can listen to over and over again without getting bored with it. There are some great guest artist also such as Derek Trucks and also the guitarist from Soulive.

This is beautiful, undescribeable music, performed from the heart and that you'll feel in your own heart, if you're tuned in that way. In the US we are accustomed to music being categorized, to falling within a particular (although ambiguous) set of parameters in order to appeal to various radio audiences. This music simultaneously defies and dissolves boundaries and belongs in the category of 'beautiful, heart-felt, uncategorizeable music', the appeal of which some will embrace immediately and which will spread exponentially as we continue to wake up to the profundity of life on planet Earth. Warning: listening to it through your heart may awaken you from your slumber, if only for a moment.

This is a CD for a hot afternoon, well, or a nippy fall morning.... Maybe even for a snowy night. I bought this after a feature on NPR, and was even more pleased than I'd hoped I'd be. It's a smoothie using rhythms reminiscent of camel rides on the Sahara with generous handfuls of crunchy guitars, and luscious nips of other instruments, but never dribbling out of African music into the puddle of elevator music. Metaphors aside, it's a really pleasant, keep-me-moving CD that I'm delighted to recommend as an addition to your international music stash.

This album is so bad, it's pathetic. Repetitive, unimaginative like you can't imagine. One would have hoped for something much better from someone related to Ali Farka Touré. Same thing with the other WFT album I've listened to, Fondo. How can anything coming out of Mali be so insipid. On the other hand, I just went to see WFT last weekend (Somerville Theater) where he played together with Idan Raichel, an Israeli pop musician, and was very pleasantly surprised. I can definitely recommend that album: The Touré-Raichel Collective: The Tel Aviv Session. I can't explain the difference. I wish someone could explain to me how an uninspired, wannabe, but well-connected, guitar player from Mali together with an Israeli pop musician can play such beautiful music.
