Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

"He's coming for us," Mr. Darby said at last. "For the first time since we drove him out of the Secret Zoo—the Shadowist is coming."

Noah, his sister Megan, and their best friends, Ella and Richie, have spent more than a year protecting the Secret Zoo. But now they're facing a greater danger than ever before. DeGraff has been spotted on the streets. He's moving closer and closer to the Secret Zoo. Old friends and new allies must work together if they want to stop the Shadowist. But can Noah and the Scouts trust everyone who claims to be on their side?

About the Author

Bryan Chick is the author of the Secret Zoo series. I read this book with my son (8) and my daughter (6). We loved it. Great mystery and friendship story.

I have read all these books with my son in the last year. He was really excited to read this new one--we had it on pre-order for months. It started off ok, and we were getting into it, but then the middle was really drawn out way too long, a little dull actually, and then finally became too scary, with the violence. I almost could not finish the book, and then had to truncate the story to leave out the scary/violent parts in the last few chapters so we could reach the end. Then, at the end we were left completely hanging. I understand in adult books, sometimes this is a good thing, but leaving it so open-ended, with no apparent good feeling or resolution, for us, this was a bummer. We will read the next, but hope that the story improves and relies less on violence and more on better story.

My daughter poured through the first three books and was eagerly awaiting the fourth. She got about 3/4 of the way through the book and got really scared and now she won't pick it up. I tried to read it with her, but she is just too scared. I am so disappointed in the way this one ends... and the level of intensity with the violence. It may not seem like much to an adult, but to a little girl that was passionate about these books it is a disappointment that she is too afraid to finish it.

All of the Secret Zoo books have been absolutely enjoyable. Traps and Specters is no exception. A fun read that leads one down a very imaginative path where you can lose yourself in the zoo and the characters.

I love the Secret Zoo Series. I bought them for my 11 year old nephew for his birthday. He read the first one and really liked it; because I love to discuss books with him he loaned it to me. The stories are so fun and adventurous, with just the right amount of suspense. I love that I can share in a book that my nephew is reading and really enjoy the book a lot, abd the camaraderie with my nephew.
Totally recommend this series to any parent who has a child that loves to read.

I have been reading this series of books with my 8 year old daughters. They read a chapter and then I read the last chapter before we retire. There are really scary moments and laugh out loud moments. We are on the third book of the series right now and have enjoyed every minute.

I admit it I am an adult who loves this book. I was hooked from book one and this one just pulled me deeper.
