Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Khamisa, an award-winning peace and forgiveness advocate, and Quinn, a life and spiritual coach, explore spiritual resiliency—the ability to recover from disappointment and tragedy and one of the strongest predictors of happiness. The authors assert that when individuals embrace spiritually affirming thoughts, they make more empowering choices, including maintaining good spiritual hygiene, connecting with their callings, taking care of their bodies, and creating a resilience-rich environment. Through their own personal stories and those of others, the authors reveal how spiritually bulletproof people think, providing exercises to help the reader learn and practice mental habits that support spiritual resiliency. Each chapter ends with a Bounce Back Boot Camp section that introduces techniques such as making time and space to mourn fully and deeply and to push into pain rather than be numb to true feelings. Thorough and enlightening, this book will help readers face life's challenges with a full arsenal of tools. (Feb.)

This book is a great antidote for self-help books that are so often cliche-ridden and reductive. It is well-written and grounded in the "real world." The advice is practical, insightful, and tempered by recognizable experience. At a time when so many feel so much anxiety about the stability of their lives and futures--this is a timely investment in personal development.

I found this book both deeply moving and incredibly inspiring. The personal stories of Khamisa and Quinn, as well as the people they have counseled, are ones I know I'll remember vividly weeks and months after reading them. The sage advice that Secrets of the Bulletproof Spirit contains and the positive outlook it encourages all of us to develop couldn't be more timely.

The Secrets of the Bullet Proof Spirit

How To Bounce Back From Life's Hardest Hits By Azim Khamisa and Jillian Quinn

How does one develop a bullet proof spirit to get through many of life's toughest challenges? When I heard about the Authors of this book and their incredible stories I knew that if anyone would have any insights into the answer to this question it would be Azim and Jillian. Azim's son was murdered and it was his bullet proof spirit that led him to forgive the one who had killed his son. He realized in his grief and loss that there were many victims and that the only way to heal was to truly forgive. Jillian was heartbroken when told that the baby she carried was not living and upon recovery from her loss she adopted a child. Both of these Authors took these heart wrenching experiences and turned them into something positive, encouraging and triumphant. How does one so broken and in pain rise up in service to others? The Secrets of the Bullet Proof Spirit unveils thirty secrets that can help you during those tough times. This book is a great heart inspired manual and a powerful reminder that when things get tough that this too shall pass. We may fall down but with a Bullet Proof Spirit we can and we will get up. Thoughtful, practical, assuring and inspirational! The frequency that these two put forth with their message lends to the shift of possibility for all of humanity. Forgivness is truly possible and the lightness that it brings is so peaceful. Forgiveness yields peace within and in one's whole perspective outward. A wonderful book!

After some recent physical trauma resulting in 14 surgeries my Aunt gave me this book as a gift in the hospital. This book really helped me gain perspective on my situation, re-frame my thoughts and more positively direct my emotions. This is not a spiritual, God or religious book but rather how to make your spirit bullet proof and able to with stand the turbulence of life's greatest tragedy , trauma's and struggles. The author's start by telling their stories to help you understand their own struggles and why they found their conclusions about tragedy and trauma may be valuable for others. The authors are not just scholars but every day people that survived some of life's greatest tragedies and trauma.
