Book Description

As an aspiring author, Bronwyn never dreamed she would be writing trite, sappy love stories for a traveling drama troupe. She longs to write a compelling novel, a story striving to emerge from deep inside of her as far back as she can remember. However, she is suffering from a lack of inspiration, resulting in the most severe writer's block ever.
The reason -- her fiancé, Ryan Reese, the fastest rising star in Hollywood, broke off their engagement, leaving her cynical, bitter and not at all thrilled about scripting any more love stories.
To add to the wreckage of her life, her touring bus breaks down on the way to one of the biggest venues of the summer leaving her stranded in the peculiar town of Moonshine and at the mercy of the town's most prominent resident, the mysterious Travis Colton.
During her stay Bronwyn discovers a shroud of secrecy surrounding the small town and the eerie similarity of the people living in Moonshine to characters she created in a tragic story years ago. What she wrote in the past, is now reality that exist far beyond her imagination. As the days pass, she discovers that there is something quite disturbing at play in this peculiar town; something secretive and mystifying lurking beyond the borders of the woods. Secrets the town has kept hidden for over two-hundred years.  Thus, her true adventure begins, as she sets out to uncover The Secrets of Moonshine realizing that  the forbidden Travis is the guardian of the town's secrets and the only key that can unlock the mystery.

The second book in the series, HAYTHAM, The Secret in The Rubble, will be out January 2012.

2.0 out of 5 stars I may be premature, but... August 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Okay, I apologize in advance to those who have given such glowing reviews. I have to be honest and say that this is an in-process review. I have not finished reading this book, and sincerely hope, based on the very positive reviews already posted here, that I can.

One word. EDITING. Okay, maybe a few more... I wish, wish, wish that authors who self-publish would simply invest the couple hundred dollars it would take to have a manuscript professionally edited. I assure you,the payoff would be worth it. More people would look for additional books to purchase from those authors, and publishers would be more likely to take a second glance (see Heather Killough-Walden as an example). I, personally, will NEVER purchase another title from an author after struggling through missing commas, improper apostrophes, run-on sentences, etc... despite how compelling the story may be. It's too difficult. I get so thrown out the story - so frequently - that I start editing before my mind can process what I'm reading. That's the case for this book.

I have made it halfway through chapter 4 and had to put my Kindle down to write this review. I want to read this book. I want to love it. I can tell that there is potentially a great story here, but so far I can barely keep track of what's happening. I lost my focus on the storyline while counting missing commas (123 so far, but I'm estimating since I didn't write it down).

I will attempt to edit this review after (if) I finish reading.

Follow-up review.

I tried. I really tried. I did get several more chapters after firmly attempting to ignore my inner editor. And I succeeded, mostly. Then I realized that I was still having trouble following what/who/where/pov-whose? I'm sorry Denise. I just think that you need to refine your craft a bit more. Read other books and compare. Rewrite and republish a corrected/re-edited version. As it stands, I can't recommend this. I feel generous changing it down to only a 2 star. I'm sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow start September 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
When I started this book I didn't have high hopes because of the over used "vehicle broken down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere" thing. To be honest, I did have to read several chapters before I really got into it. If you're going to read it I just have to say, give it a shot before you put it down. While it did start out slow, I feel that this book was just an introduction to a great series; a book just building the foundation for the bigger picture. Aside from the grammatical errors which have already been mentioned, I really fell in love with it. I definitely recommend trying it out and I have recommended it to several friends.

2.0 out of 5 stars My Kingdom For an Editor August 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I like the story, I really do, however, I weary of protagonists who we're told are special when nothing in the text supports the claim. There are supporting characters who are amazingly underdeveloped given the amount of description spent elsewhere. The bigger concern for me was the lack of commas that made the run-on sentences tough going. An editor should have caught that, and also caught the homophone problems (their/they're, etc.). There are many good and great books for $.99 or less; this is not one of them.
