Advance Praise for The Sell

“After moving from Sweden to New York, Eklund became a megastar in that city's hyperkinetic real estate market; now he wows 'em at Bravo's Million Dollar Listing New York, which airs in 113 countries and is the No. 1 TV show on iTunes. This primer on how to sell 'anything to everyone'will be big; there were already several thousand preorders seven months before publication date.”
Library Journal

“Fredrik is one of the most fun and talented people in real estate sales today. He always delivers with undeniable charisma and this book is no exception.”
Ivanka Trump, VP of Real Estate Development and Acquisitions at The Trump Organization and author of The Trump Card

“Fredrik could sell ice to an Eskimo. I can't do a high kick, but I'm excited to learn his other tricks!”
Andy Cohen, author of the New York Times bestseller The Andy Cohen Diaries, television host and producer

“The number one trait I always looked for when I was hiring someone for my company and what I look for now when I’m investing in entrepreneurs on Shark Tank is passion, a need to succeed. Someone who’d rather die than not be the best. That’s Fredrik, and after reading this book, that will be you, too.”
Barbara Corcoran, founder of The Corcoran Group, ABC’s Shark Tank investor, and author of Shark Tales

“With The Sell, Fredrik Eklund has created the modern day How to Win Friends and Influence People.  If you’re looking for how to achieve success in the 21st Century, the answer is in your hands.”
Tom Doctoroff, CEO, J. Walter Thompson, and Bestselling Author of Twitter is Not a Strategy

Frederick has such a big personality and you can almost hear his voice as you are reading along. Every page was great and so was the advise. Amazon makes you use stars, but surely this book warrants five high kicks Weee!

I don't watch his show, I don't do social media, and I did not know a thing about him until last morning when I saw him on Morning Joe (MSNBC) "selling" his book. Intrigued, I got it on Kindle and, even though my Thursday was busy, I just finished it (it's before 2 AM on Friday). Fun to read, nothing about it was heavy-going, and I found it practical for me, a person who is decidedly NOT a salesperson! I'm recommending it to my 21 years-old son. Good job, Mr. Eklund. Inspiring and practically useful for one and all. Cheers! - Niraj Pant

THE SELL is a fascinating book, which covers a wide range of issues for people in the sales industry--but actually, for just about anyone who wants to present their ideas better. Fredrik Eklund is a witty writer, and this makes the book a fun, easy read. It's part inspirational, part marketing, part dress for success, and part social networking.

The content of THE SELL is so broad, that it's tough to focus on just one part; however, there is a particular chapter in this book that is well worth the price of admission. That is chapter 6, entitled, "Make 'em smile." The purpose of this chapter is to convince the reader to "cultivate your charm and sense of humor." This chapter homes in on a particular area for weakness for many people--charm, and a good sense of humor. The author points out that you only have a very brief time to make a good impression--likely a lifelong impression. He explains that "You have 30 seconds to capture someone's attention."

And so the author suggests cultivating humor and the art of being charming. Sometimes this means just flat out being silly. When Fredrik first met his future husband--an extremely tall man, in line ahead of him, the author touched him on the shoulder and asked him why he was so tall. Fredrik explained to the man, " I grew up on Swedish meatballs, which made me tall. What did you eat?"

In order to cultivate a sense of charm, it helps to be a little self-deprecating. The author tells an outrageous story involving the author peeing on himself before an important meeting. As a result, he had to run out to his car with his suit coat draped around his waist, only to be ridiculed by his driver.

Unless you are a Fredrik Eklund/Million Dollar listing Fanatic, or a complete noob to sales, I doubt you'll gleam anything useful from this book. I know this book is about "The Sell" but please spare us the hyperbole and in some cases downright lies. The constant name dropping, hokey cliches, sob stories and cheesy self promotion is nauseating!

If readers are really interested in mastering the art of "The Sell" I would suggest:

How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success in Selling by Frank Bettger, The Psychology of Selling: Increase Your Sales Faster and Easier Than You Ever Thought Possible by Brian Tracy, and my personal favorite : Secrets of closing the sale By Zig Ziglar. These titles have less fluff and more concrete information that will lead the reader to greater success.

I really enjoyed every page of The Sell. If you implemented 25% of the tips Fredrik outlines in his first book, you would already be making your way towards success. Fredrik shares his secrets to his real estate, social media, and personal success along with a great story. Whether you are in college or looking to change careers, I highly recommend this motivational and inspiring book.

First of all, I prefer people to get straight to the point, cut through the hogwash, and give the needed information. Eklund spends A LOT of time being fun, being cute, telling stories, bragging, etc.

If you're like me, you'll find that as unnecessary. If you're unlike me, and you like playful personal banter, then you'll love this book. For you this book will be a great balance between fun personal stories that emotionally connect you to the author, and helpful information.

As a person who just likes to get to the point, I think about 2/3rds of this book is entirely unnecessary. But then again I'm a social recluse.

Once in a while it is good to read a self-help book. In have always found the author to be outrageous in a negative way. His father is a government socialist in Sweden, which makes me think about the son being a spoiled brat.

Still after reading his book I appreciate him better. He is hard-working. He is worth listening to for his practical advice and suggestions. It is more an update of How to Win Friends & Influence People than a book about selling (even the second part). His idol is clearly Donald Trump even though he is not mentioned. Not in terms of politics, but in terms of book writing style and life ambition. A few ideas so you get the feel of the book:
* He wakes up to the song "Money, money, money. Must be funny in the rich man's world" by ABBA.
* He gets eight hours of sleep and always uses earplugs. He likes Hastens' beds, which he describes using words directly from the company's advertising. Wtf?
* He suggests to reach powerful people through their gatekeepers. That's a new one :)
* He drinks water before he is thirsty. Probably a good idea.
* He goes to the gym every day at 6 am. If you cannot create a similar routine, he has 12 exercises for you to try at home.
* He eats a lot of protein shakes and no pasta. He likes expensive wine but does not drink as it lowers his performance the subsequent day.
* He never watches television, but he thinks you should watch his own show and nothing else. Wtf?
* When he enters a Starbucks, he says "I'm hereee" in a loud voice just to make people laugh. Once a year he also goes out in the middle of Fifth Avenue and screams "I love New York". Really?
