Product Description

This three-dimensional toy features a spinning top disc that allows children to lie down, sit, kneel, or stand while spinning to improve balance and coordination. Unlike other older rotational devices, the Spin Disc has a larger oblong base (26"W x 24" L) that spins freely on an angle. Spin Disc accommodates other positioning devices like feeder seats or angle cushions also available on our site. This product is ideal for all children or adults up to 125lbs. Also works great in combination with the SOS sensory seat pad for the days where a more calm approach is required. On a therapeutic level, the Spin Disc is a balance training device designed for use with children with balance or neurological disabilities.

This was a fantastic spinning toy for my 6 year old autistic son. He's 50-60lbs, so well within the weight guidelines. He would spin so fast and it brought him so much joy!

After 3 months of daily use, it broke. The plastic in the base that the shaft goes through split, and would therefore no longer keep the washers and bearings secure, so when he'd sit on it, the top would be sitting directly on the base and would not spin. Those of you with autistic children can understand, when your child gets used to a particular activity in their daily routine and then have it break, it's a disaster! Meltdown city and impossible to communicate to my nonverbal child that it is broken.

The manufacturer of this product is a private source and you can NOT contact them directly. The representative of Sensory University (the seller) could offer me no recourse as the manufacturer only guarantees the product for 30 days! Just 30 days!!!

I had to reorder another one, which at $129 + shipping is not cheap! Especially if I am going to have to replace it every 3 months!

I would urge the manufacturer of this product to change the base of this spin disc as well as the way the base attaches to the seat--make it all metal plate and shaft, so plastic splitting is not an issue. Additionally, I would urge them to increase their warranty time and have the ability to be contacted by consumers! I'm really disappointed.

We loved this disc, which is the ONLY reason I am hesitantly purchasing another one. I hope the next one lasts a little longer.

We bought a Spin Disc for our autistic 10-year son from one of Amazon.com's sellers, The Sensory University. We paid $120. We had this item for less than 6 weeks when it came apart - top from bottom. The mechanism inside has broken and caused the bottom of the unit to cave in.

The Sensory University replied to my message to say that they can not help me because I did not return the item within 30 days (we were 10 days past their 30-day period). Obviously, I did not return this item before 30 days because it did not break during that period.

Do they think that its acceptable for an item that they sell to break just after the 30-day period?

Amazon's A-Z Guarantee department said that they can not help for the same reason.

How can this be acceptable customer service from both Amazon and the Sensory University?

I'm shocked this gets great reviews. It did work wonderfully for exactly two months, almost to the day. Our daughter spinned on it daily for about 30 mins per day.

Then one day, it just stopped working. We flipped it over and it was plastic on plastic worn away.

I contacted customer service and received this reply:

"Unfortunately the 30 day defective claim period has expired on this order. We do apologize for this inconvenience however we are required to abide by our posted return / exchange policy."

Wow. $99 for two months. NOT a good value.

This toy is a must for children with sensory and balance issues. The sitting area is large and it is easy for children to sit comfortably with their legs folded. I bought it for my 8 year old who weighs 54 lbs. My 10 year old son who weighs about 75 lbs can sit with plenty of extra room. Once you start spinning, the toy keeps the momentum going. If you try to spin it too fast a child can fall off since it is on an angle, but you have to spin very fast and be a little dizzy for that to happen. It is very sturdy and I cannot find a single thing wrong with the craftsmanship of this product.

Originally purchased this item for my 10 yr old son with autism. He LOVED it! The shaft broke after only 3 days of use (my son weight 87 pounds). Well under the 150 pounds weight limit. I contacted Sensory University with photos of the broken unit and they sent me a new unit. The 2nd unit lasted just over 5 weeks, then broke in exactly the same manner as the first. The shaft separated from the base causing the unit not to turn. All my son did was use this unit as intended. He sat on it and spun. I again contacted Sensory University and they said unfortunately they could not help me because it had passed their "30 day" policy. I am not sure about anyone else, but if I spend $120 on a sensory device I have expectations that it will last beyond 30 days. I was also told they had "received no direct complaints from consumers" in regards to this item. In two minutes I found at least 3 other reviews on here with the SAME EXACT COMPLAINT! All stating they had contacted Sensory University. Please do not buy this item for your child. They will only be disappointed in the end.

I just spoke to Dexter of High Desert Natives, LLC, the Official Home of the Spin Disc and he couldn't have been nicer! We had an issue with the Spin Disc coming apart when we took it out of the box. We did try to put it back together ourselves, as it was our son's big present for Christmas, but there were not instructions in the box. My son, who has Down Syndrome, loves it! However, after using it a couple of times, it started making scratches in our floor. We did contact the seller, Sensory University, and they do not offer the option of a replacement and require the buyer to pay return shipping. So, I did a search on line and found the developer/manufacturer. I explained what happened and he immediately said he would send us a new Spin Disc and pay to have the other returned! Definitely contact the company of you have problems! [...]
