Product Description

A dark psychological tale, The Sentiment of The Flesh finds two young medical students who are sexually attracted to each other which leads to a dark obsession with their shared fascination with the human body. In the tradition of David Cronenberg s Dead Ringers, The Sentiment of The Flesh delves into erotic fetishes that turn into a bizarre game of pushing sexual boundries.

About the Director

After having worked as an assistant editor for films as I love you and Il banchetto di Platone, by Marco Ferreri, Bitter Moon and Frantic by Roman Polanski amongst many others, Roberto Garzelli directed his first two shorts films: John, which traveled around the world winning prizes in many festivals and Dadow, which also won over a dozen prizes in some French and international festivals.

In 2002, he wrote and directed a TV drama for Arte France; La place de l autre with Michael Lonsdale. He continued with an astonishing documentary, also broadcast on Arte; My Death In All Its States, which won the First prize at the Escales Documentary Film Festival in La Rochelle. In this movie he explores with humor what happens to the bodies after death. The idea of his first feature movie The Sentiment Of The Flesh was born out of this documentary.

WOW - It takes real guts to make a film like this nowadays. The theme involved is ancient: Two people, passionately in love, begin to be overwhelmed by their feelings. Their love then takes strange form, and the couple begin to perform taboo acts. At first, the pair dabble in these deviances--and then things take a major turn against societal norms. The reason this movie is excellent, is that it has found a completely new, innovative expression for the Love Gone Wrong! The two lovers in question are a radiologist and a professional medical illustrator. The setting, then, is French healthcare. The action is steamy and will be very off-putting to non-medical professionals in two brief moments. That said, this movie really is worth watching. I have never spent so much time yelling while watching a film: Begging one or both characters on screen not to proceed in their intended actions. Very involving!

I read reviews for this film, here, and elsewhere before I watched it, and am frankly amused by the "Yuk" reviews. They do nothing but perpetuate that stereotype of who cares what is going on inside as long as the outside is perfect. These characters and I believe partly due to their professions wanted to know EVERYTHING about each other. Did they go about that in a safe manner ? No... But that takes away little from their intentions, and by the end of it you really do see full on a very deep bond between them. I also think this film is a perfect metaphor for loving entirely as opposed to just the surface. I found this to be an excellent piece of art.

Do you like thumbing through Gray's Anatomy? The book, not the show. Do you like looking at, palpating, and tracing your loved ones veins? Or getting the stethoscope and listening to their heart and lung sounds? If you do, this might be the romantic movie for you. There is a beauty to the inside of the body that only some people understand, respect, and love. Clearly the negative reviews are not those kind of people. This movie explores a deep admiration for the functioning of the human body intertwining it with obsession, boundary pushing, and falling in love.

I found the movie to be a waste of time. First, don't expect it to be all that sexy. For the most part it is boring and pointless. I found myself wondering why anyone would even talk about it. I will never waste time with it again. Since when did surgery become sexy? I suppose there is some freak out there that could get into that weird idea but I wouldn't want to meet them. Skip this one.

Couldn't watch it due to it pausing very couple of minutes and then back tracking. I watched it on my new Kindle that I only had for maybe a week. Very unsatisfied.
