This collection contains 810 sermons on various topics compiled in 4 volumes. This volume contains sermons 201-400.

C. H. Spurgeon (1834-1892) was the foremost preacher of his time and pastored a large church in London. He was the great Victorian preacher, a leading campaigner against liberal theology, and one of the most influential people of the second half of the 19th century. He was called the 'prince of preachers' and had significant effect on both church and society. The congregations that heard him preach were truly vast; it is estimated that on a normal Sunday he would preach to upwards of 10,000 people. Spurgeon had the gift of getting right to the heart of a matter in a style that was memorable and profound. At the heart of his desire to preach was a fierce love of people, a desire that meant that he did not neglect his pastoral ministry.

I should have written this review a year or so ago. The 810 sermons contained in the three Kindle editions have become a treasured source for my supplemental biblical reading. I read them one at a time and as the end of day makes a sermon title seem appropriate. I have been moved and lifted by the argument and logic of Charles Spurgeon in this mass of material available via the annotatable Kindle editions. Spurgeon's range and appeal is timeless, I've come to conclude for those who are drawn to his theology of well-reasoned and self-settled positions regarding Jesus Christ.

Spurgeon is a Baptist-Calvinist by his own declaration. Here is unembroidered scripture enlightened with Spurgeon's genius for practical application. There is no soft pedaling to be found in these sermons. Regretfully, one might never hear the vast majority of his sermons rendered in modern churchdom. Spurgeon is the hard scrabble purveyor of salvation in direct biblical terms. Spurgeon strove mightily to answer the aggressive God-seekers deepest wonders. He accomplishes the mission in the rarest of clarity to this very day.

As a church going worshipper, I've heard and wondered at his lingering influence among various pastors ... but these that I hear are shadows of the Spurgeon genius.

Here is a 5-star and perhaps lifelong meditation collection for the aggressive Protestant God-seeker. The sermons are organized in pure alphabetical order. Spurgeon's sermon titles are frequently not precisely the theological notion that he expands upon ... but no matter. The sermon for however it's titled has always been spot on.
