Format: Paperback
I logged on Amazon to buy a copy of _The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit_ after my father-in-law loaned it to me. By the end of the first chapter I felt that I needed to have my own copy: this is a book that I am going to go back to time and again.

A previous reviewer takes issue with her perception that the book is less than perfectly Roman Catholic. I'm Catholic, myself (though I'd identify first as a Christian), and my take on _The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit_ was that it was actually a little on the rah-rah-Catholicism side; I could see Protestants smiling and rolling their eyes a bit at what they might perceive to be a tiny bit of a "home team" Catholic feel in the writing. But I don't believe most would find this offensive. And I'd remind everyone that writings about religion are bound to contain some flaws, as they are written by flawed humans: rather than harshly criticize works for being insufficiently dogmatic, we would do well to reflect on the Godly bits therein that reveal themselves to us through the imperfect communications of our brothers.

And Mr. Finley is a reflective and spiritual Christian, whose writings about the Holy Spirit are personal, approachable . . . and meaningful. There is much here for any Christian to reflect on, and it's presented with such avuncular charm that it's a treat to read. If you like the writings of Garry Wills (_What Jesus Meant_, etc.), you might well enjoy _The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit_. I did.

Amazing book! I read it in 2 days. We are guided by the Holy Spirit all day everyday. He is giving us gifts that are leading us to gain heaven. A must read for all.

The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit is a seemingly good title. They are hard for any Catholic to understand, which is why my husband picked up this book. I did not read the entire book, but have taken a brief survey of the book and have found heresy after heresy.

For example, on page 3, "Wisdom is God's created feminine companion before creation" Where is that?

Then in the counsel section, the author talks about a Protestant lady having counsel and writing a note to God. He praises this. She did not convert to Catholicism before her death. She died a Protestant. Protestants may have a "sacrament" called "Confirmation", but they so not have a Catholic bishop do it who has an unbroken line of succession from the Apostles.
Wasn't there a better example, maybe from the lives of the saints, that could show some of the gifts.

Isn't this enough example?

The contradictions to Catholic teachings on every page, practically.

Books like this, that pretend to be Catholic, are a bigger problem than books that never intended to be Catholic.
