About the Author

Ellen G. White (1827-1915) has undoubtedly been the most influential Seventh-day Adventist in the history of the church. She and her husband, James, provided strong leadership as the church was founded and organized in the mid-1800's. Her personal presence and her writings did much to shape and guide Adventism during her seven decades of prophetic ministry. Since her death in 1915 her counsel and insights have continued to direct the Adventist Church. Today millions look to her writings for guidance and motivation.

I own both the hard-bound book set and the CD-ROM software version.

EXTREMELY in-depth and exhaustive, I am rarely disappointed when I refer to these volumes for clarification of Bible text. Nearly every verse in the Bible is commented upon in detail, with qualifying remarks and often offering alternate explanations ... and listing them as likely correct or unlikely. I do not find the material to be Adventist-centric only, though, of course, concepts about the Sabbath and other SDA concepts like healthful living and the state of the dead are qualified here.

If you are Sevent-day Adventist, I don't see how you would not invest in these commentary. If you are another denomination, not only will you will learn a lot about Adventist belief, but you will gain insight into many other biblical concepts worth delving into for ALL Christian religions.

It is systematic commentary of the entire Bible based on the original languages of the Bible, and used archaeological research to provide a historical context for interpretation. I think it is important to note that the body of the Commentaries is not just a re-hash of E. G. White writings. These are scores of Adventist Bible Scholars from academic and theological backgrounds contributing, and a core staff of editors and graduate students proofing and making the final write consistent in literary style.

Associate editor Raymond Cottrell has said of the Commentary:

"In his instructions to the contributors, Nichol [Francis D. Nichol served as the editor-in-chief] explained the commentary was not "to crystallize once and for all a dogmatic interpretation".
