Book Description

A marriage made in hell...

Barely five feet tall, sweet and innocent looking, Charlene Gallego used all of her charms to beguile pretty teenage girls and young women into the back of a van, where her lethal husband, Gerald, lay waiting.

A killer couple bound together by secrets, lies, and sex slave fantasies...

Married multiple times and still in his early thirties, Gerald Gallego found the perfect companion in Charlene. Over a grisly period of twenty-six months, their bloody and brutal rampage of kidnapping, rape, and murder spanned three states and claimed eleven lives.

In this much more frightening than fiction tale of domination, depraved lust, substance abuse, violence, and murder, award winning, bestselling criminologist R. Barri Flowers tells the whole story of a couple's twisted relationship, their ghastly crimes and ability to elude the law, how they were finally captured, and the two riveting trials that ultimately pitted wife against husband with the stakes higher than either once imagined in their murderous bond.

"A gripping account of the murders committed by husband-and-wife serial killers Gerald and Charlene Gallego. Top true crime author and criminologist R. Barri Flowers provides his keen insight and expertise into what made these killing partners tick. Flowers knows his stuff. Compelling reading." -- Gary C. King, author of BLOOD LUST: Portrait of a Serial Sex Killer and DRIVEN TO KILL

From the Author

As a criminologist, I wrote this book to explore the serial murders committed by husband-wife serial killers Gerald and Charlene Gallego, fueled by sex slave fantasies and substance abuse. I was also drawn to the fact that Gerald Gallego's father was too a convicted murderer, prompting me to look into the "bad seed" theory--that is, the possibility of homicidal tendencies being passed from one generation to the next.

The book also take a a hard look at Gerald's accomplice in murder, Charlene, and what may have possessed a woman with a high IQ and well-to-do background to become involved with a career criminal in perpetrating multiple adductions, sexual assaults, and homicides.

Previously published by St. Martin's Press and excerpted by Cosmopolitan Magazine, this edition of THE SEX SLAVE MURDERS includes an update on the killers and victims whose remains had not been located at the time of the previous edition.

Finally, the book notes other infamous killer couples, who left their own mark on sociey--though none can quite compare to the Gallegos and what motivated them to get together and commit their acts of violence before finally being brought to justice.

THE SEX SLAVE MURDERS was the basis for two TV crime documentaries. "The Love Slave Murders," appeared in Crime Stories in the Biography Channel; while "Twisted Twosome," was an episode of Investigation Discovery's Wicked Attraction series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Book August 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
A true crime story of a husband and wife team of serial killers that took place in and around Sacramento, CA in the 1980's. It's a blow by blow accounting of the incidents that took place, from the beginning of the couple's twisted relationship all the way up to their trials and convictions. Very interesting and seemingly accurate reporting that was very well researched by the author.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Gruesome Twosome in Effect September 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This TC work chronicles the sexually motivated crimes committed in the late seventies, early eighties, by Charlene and Gerald Gallego. They went around kidnapping young girls and women to be "sex slaves" for Gerry G. Charlene willingly helped by inviting "spacy, skinny, young girls" to the mountain and vulture painted van to smoke weed with her and then Gerald would jump out with a gun and tie them up. All told, they killed 10 people and an unborn baby. At first I was a little put-off by the author's tendency to skip from one crime, time period, and history to the next. Also, I would have liked to read more about the killers' histories (everybody says that) but understand those anecdotes are sometimes hard to get out of the family. However, I soon got used to this rapid fire style and found it a bit refreshing in that one character or time period doesn't get stale as they tend to in many TC books. Also, the court proceedings were brief but interesting because Gerry G. represented himself in his own death penalty trials (yes, trialS). The author also has a good sense of humor and made me laugh several times with little comments he would add here and there. These two are right up there with Paul Bernardo and the lovely Karla Homolka.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing June 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read this book on the Kindle. The free sample was engaging enough to convince me to buy it.... but then the book went downhill. It became a very dry read. The author just reported facts or quoted dialog- there was no emotion in the story and the characters all seemed very flat. Finally it jumped to the trial section, but that was also a bad read. It was like hearing about it from a bored but thorough newspaper reporter instead of actually seeing it with your own eyes. The last 15% of this book was simply excerpts from other books of the author.
