I thought this book would be a way to step through the healing process, and to also recognize markers/plateaus along the way. There is some of that, BUT this book is primarily focused on getting the reader back into being sexual, although in a healthy way. For those of us who are the start of a healing journey, sexuality is the last thing we may want to explore, and simply dealing with the actions, rage and truth of abuse is primary. At least it is for me. I would say this author should indicate this book is a better one for people who are further along in the path of healing. I would like to possibly reread it in a year or two, not now. It has very similar 'Joy of Sex' type illustrations in the last section that made me just flip through and finish the book, not ready to go there.

Again, for some, this is the right book for where they are in the process. For those of us at the start of rebuilding after acknowledging abuse, it's the wrong book at the wrong time.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has been sexually assaulted, molested or other sexual trauma. I have not been able to date a man for the past 20 years due to my past trauma. When I ran into an old friend, we wanted to start dating. The fact that I new him made me feel safer. He recommended seeing a sex therapist who deals with past traumas that keep you moving forward and trusting again. She recommended this book for me and my boyfriend. I did not read the parts where people talk about their past experiences, but those stories were great for my boyfriend to understand what I was going through. THen there is a complete section in the back that helped me to move on with my life, and be able to say "NO" to my boyfriend when I felt sexually pressured.
THis book, as any other couples book, will really benefit you if your boyfriend, lover, new relationship partner reads it also. It is up to date as far as psychology goes, and has allowed me to come out of my shell and start a relationship again!

This book has really opened my eyes to the affects that I still have today from the abuse I received nearly 30 years ago. If there is any doubt or questions as to whether you were abused, or it's impact on your life, this book is a MUST READ!!!

I wish I had known of this book years ago. Maltz has a perfect understanding of sexual abuse issues and provides guidance and techniques that will really help you heal. I suffered all sorts of sexual abuse~longterm child sexual abuse by a parent, sexual harassment at school and work, acquaintance sexual assault by lesbians, sexual abuse within a relationship. I've had to re-define sex, change how I think about everything, learn to handle triggers, and re-learn boundaries and assertiveness. I learned the hard way that you cannot force yourself to heal and that you must listen to yourself. I also learned that you can't do it all alone~some of it must be done with a loving, kind, respectful partner who is willing to work with you. After my first abusive relationship, I considered being alone for the rest of my life, but I held onto hope and courage. Being in a healthy relationship seemed impossible. This book helped me make it real.

This Book is a great resource for every sexual assault survivor. In her nonjudgmental, simple acceptance, the author understands that each survivor is at a different stage of healing. She encourages the reader to read the parts they are ready to read and come back later for others. It's a wonderful book to have as a resource!

Originally I started reading the "Let's just Cuddle" book and hated it. The intro to this book goes through her sexual trauma and I would not recommend that the intro be read because I found it to be very retraumatizing. The rest of the book has been great however. Very down to earth with doable exercises (for those who are ready). It has really made me feel less alone and weird. It has affirmed all the struggles I have been going through. I love and am grateful for the book. That being said, I have already been doing work on the trauma and I'm not sure the book would be as helpful to someone who is just starting. It may be overwhelming for them but I don't know for sure

This is an excellent book but you should be aware that it might bring up some serious issues. You might want to consider reading this while under the guidance of a counselor. Very helpful tool.
