Editorial Reviews

Review

"An enjoyable, well-written and twisty thriller with gruesome aspects balanced by warmth, believable relationships and a likable hero."

--Kirkus Reviews

"'The Shadow Man' is a chilling and haunting novel of suspense, murder, and revenge. Through Mr. Murphy's skilled words, Savannah comes to life and becomes the backdrop for a serial killer who is diabolical and invisible. The plot and characters were amazingly put together and the story flowed very well. I loved this novel and I was utterly shocked by the ending. I don't want to give away too much, because you have to read this book for yourself! Fast-paced and eerily evil, 'The Shadow Man' is an absolute must-read for any horror or suspense enthusiast."

--The Bibliophilic Book Blog

"This is one of those books that you just can't put down once you sit down and start reading it. Full of intrigue and numerous twists and turns, it's sure to boggle the reader's mind as he/she flip the page to discover what happens next."
--Lissette E. Manning, Simplistik Book Blog

More About the Author

Mark Murphy is a Savannah native. He's had a lot of jobs in his life: fast food worker, student marine biologist, orderly, and--most recently--gastroenterologist. He's met a lot of interesting folks in those occupations, from aging sitcom stars, disgraced tele-evangelists and political kingmakers to serial killers. He once even saw a man eat his mattress in a locked psychiatric ward. And when he's not working at his "day job" doing endoscopy, he's reading (a lot) and writing (not enough--but it's never enough). He pens a regular column for the Savannah Morning News, has published a few short stories, and has been a contributor to Savannah magazine. "The Shadow Man" is his first novel. And it's quite a ride...

I found this late the other night, and after reading the prologue, decided to give it a go next time I had a chance. After work the next day, I picked it up and started reading, and I didn't stop until I had finished the book. I couldn't put it down. Murphy has created a world full of twists and turns, and dripping with suspense. My hair stood on end so many times I lost count. Can't recommend this enough.

I am a huge fan of the horror/thriller genre. I have watched and read so many films and books in this genre, that I am rarely surprised by anything. This book was definitely an exception! The whole time I read this book I was on edge, even my own foot startled me at one point. Mark Murphy did a great job of creating an eerie atmosphere throughout the whole book, and the ending was excellent. Read it now!!

This was a book that I could not put down. Full of suspense and action this book was a great read. There were so many issues that were addressed in this book including: deceit, trust, loyalty and many more. The book was deep, while at the same time keeping me on the edge of my seat wondering what would come next. I also enjoyed the depth of the characters within the book that the author provided, as this made the book even more real to me as I experienced the book. Be ready to be scared and don't jump at small noises after you have completed the book!

Just finished a wonderfully engaging read of Mark Murphy's new book, "The Shadow Man." With his first novel's publication, Dr. Murphy has raised the bar on the adventure, mystery genre. His powerful imagery and intriguing story line kept me turning pages long into the night as I breathlessly followed Dr. Malcom King's fight to save the lives of his family and his own reputation in my native Savannah, GA. Make sure to set aside time to savor the story of Dr. King's quest for answers to Who? and Why? - you will not want to put "The Shadow Man" down until you finish this incredible book! Thanks, Mark. Well done! Gregg Solms, Asheville, North Carolina.

Set in beautiful and alluring Savannah, Shadow Man combines a suspense filled plot with the essence of Savannah. The dark presence lurking in the shadows of Savannah's majestic oaks and rivers threatens to destroy the lives of Dr. Malcolm King and his family. Their courageous struggle for survival draws the audience into the pages of the book, making it difficult to pause the action even for a moment. The Shadow Man will captivate readers far beyond the coast of Georgia.

Dr. Mark Murphy has written a "can't put down", "don't read when you are home alone" book. The main character is a Joe Everyman and he is enjoying the good life as a result of his hard work. Life is good! Suddenly, everyone's great fear really happens. He is accused of murder with no alibis. Super read, attention to detail is amazing and a great story line. Keeps you on the edge of your seat!

I have known Mark most of his life and I am so proud to make this claim. This book is his crowning glory. From page 1 until the last page it holds you in suspense trying to figure out what happens next. His writing skills are well above average, whether it is this novel are one of his great columns in the Savannah Morning News editorial page. He never ceases to amaze me with the variety of his comments. I highly recommend Shadow Man to anyone who is a mystery fan. I would place him right along with James Patterson, John Sandford,Patricia Cornwall or any other writer of mysteries. It is well worth reading.
