THE SHADOW VOLUME 5 consists of a pair of very good episodes starring Bill Johnstone as The Shadow. They are:
"The Return of Carnation Charlie" (2/4/40): When a gangster gets executed, that's supposed to bring an end to his career of crime, but in the case of Carnation Charlie, it merely kicked off a new beginning. The Shadow's sent many a mobster to the chair, but can he cope with one that even the chair couldn't stop?
"Death is an Art" (2/11/40): When a frustrated sculptor and a villainous scientist team up to make murder into art, it's up to The Shadow to stop them...before they can turn Margo Lane into their latest masterpiece.
These are two very strong entries from the relatively brief but very important era of Bill Johnstone, who along with Orson Welles (who preceded him) and Brett Morrison (who followed him) are the three men most closely associated with the role of The Shadow.
