Book Description

April 17, 2007

This cutting-edge new work, by the author of the New York Times bestseller The Hidden Messages in Water, presents a revolutionary understanding of life and consciousness and provides answers to the most profound questions of existence.

Introduced in the bestselling The Hidden Messages in Water and the hit cult film What the Bleep Do We Know?, the groundbreaking work of Japanese scientist Masaru Emoto captured the popular imagination and launched a worldwide movement. Using high-speed photography, Dr. Emoto discovered that crystals formed in frozen water are affected by our thoughts, words, and feelings. Since humans and the earth are composed mostly of water, his findings have far-reaching ramifications for individuals, for human society, and for the global environment.

In The Shape of Love, Dr. Emoto shares new images from his research and for the first time draws out the significant lessons of his work. In a clear, conversational style, he interprets the messages hidden in his extraordinary photographs and explains how his discoveries can help us find answers to these eternal questions: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where will we go after we die? Providing a new way of looking at such important issues as how we treat others and the earth itself, Dr. Emoto’s findings encourage the positive actions that spell a better future for all.

A magnificent follow-up to The Hidden Messages in Water, The Shape of Love is a fascinating investigation into the intersection of science and spirituality and its impact on our lives and our world.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Even the most open-minded reader will become frustrated with Emoto's follow-up to his bestseller, The Hidden Messages in Water, in which he observed how different conditions-in particular, the exposure of water samples to different words, thoughts and feelings-influence the formation of ice crystals. Here, Emoto explains the metaphysical implications of those observations, and proves too fascinating by half; certainly, mysteries at the core of modern physics might be elucidated if his results were replicated by other researchers, indicating an empirical link between human thought and what we perceive as material reality. But the "doctor of alternative medicine" jumps the gun, stretching those untested results to the breaking point in the service of broad and ultimately unsupportable conclusions. Though the moral philosophy he offers is in fact laudable, it isn't clear at all how it stems from his examination of ice crystals; the same can be said for the cosmology explicated in the book's second half. Though readers may find some inspiration, Emoto's decision to ground so much far-out speculation in scientific observation will turn off any serious researcher who might wish to reproduce Emoto's admittedly fascinating experiments.

Praise for Masaru Emoto’s New York Times Besteller, The Hidden Messages in Water

The Hidden Messages in Water is magnificent. Through his genius photography and suberb scientific skill, Dr. Masaru Emoto has created a book that is truly a mystical treasure. His contribution to research in spiritual consciousness is positively masterful.”
—Carolyn Myss, author Sacred Contracts and Anatomy of a Spirit

“Half of the earth is water; our body is three-quarters water. Water represents the interface between the fourth dimension in which we live and the fifth dimensional sphere of our soul. Many studies have shown subtle effects of healers upon hydrogen bonding and infrared absorption of water. None of these scientific studies can compare with the beauty and clear messages shown by Dr. Emoto’s elegant work. The impact of thought and beauty has never before been demonstrated so well.”
—C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., founding president of the American Holistic Medical Association

“As with Galileo, Newton, and Einstein, Dr. Emoto’s clear vision helps us to see ourselves and our universe differently. Science and spirit unite, resulting in a profound and undeniable quantum leap in how we view our world, and how we can reclaim our health and create peace.”
—Marcus Laux, N.D., editor of Naturally Well Today

“Dr. Emotos work with water beautifully illustrates the healing power of love and gratitude. These building blocks of appreciation support our well being in body, mind, heart, and soul. The Hidden Messages in Water is a most valuable contribution to the creation of a positive future for our world.”
—Noelle C. Nelson, Ph.D., coauthor of The Power of Appreciation

5.0 out of 5 stars Exercise the Mind and Refresher for the Spirit June 20, 2007
The premise of the book is: We are water. He shares a few more pictures of water crystals and some stories of his life and his perspective on them. He shares his thoughts based on all his experience with water and Hado. He talks about resonance and vibration and offers a plausible story of how we came to be in the universe and the source of water. He also discusses the power of prayer and spoken words are energetically transmitted through the ethers. It begs the question that if the spoken word has such power then how much are we affecting one another and the planet as a whole with our negative speech?

I commend Emoto for sharing his thoughts and stories. It evokes us to realize the obvious that is easily overlooked.

Unfortunately, I didn't find this book as good as Emoto's others (those I've read). (Sorry, Dr. Emoto,)

This was partly because there were bits about musical notes that I didn't understand, partly because of a long chapter expressing Emoto's personal views about the origins of our Earth. He has a theory that water came to Earth by way of comets, and this may well be true, and that the people, animals and so on came later. I agree that human beings originate from other solar systems or what not (See David Icke's books, among others), but not or at least not exclusively from the Big Dipper, as Emoto suggests.

However, I learnt something important from his photo of the crystal formed (or rather not formed) when water was exposed to the words "Do it". I understand that my well-meaning advice to others, including my daughter, in difficult situations is perhaps not as helpful as I thought, since the photo shows that water, for one, wants to make its own mind up as to what to do. (Not that I would say to anyone that they HAD to do something). So thank you, Dr. Emoto.

I was also inspired by the chapter "The power of prayer", where Emoto recounts the result of an experiment where a priest performs incantations and prayers directed to healing the water in the Fujiwara Dam. A week after the treatment, the body of a woman surfaced at the reservoir, the killer being apprehended shortly after. Amazingly, through Emoto's eyes, the water crystal picture prior to the treatment looked like a woman struggling and suffering. After the treatment, and the surfacing of the body, a crystal picture showed a merciful face the author thought resembled that of Mahatma Gandhi. Wondrous things happen in Emoto's world.

So despite my reservations, I feel this is a worthwhile book and recommend it too to those interested in Emoto's work.

Nice book. Dr. Emoto shares his viewpoint about what the shapes and impressions of the crystals mean to him in the first part of the book. There are other parts in the following chapters that are a bit more scientific. There is also a section with colored photographs of the water crystals. It is a very heart felt book and leaves you feeling sacred towards our life essence, water.
