fishing for over 30 years I have owned a lot of different fishing reels in a lot of different price ranges. I have come to like Shimano's the best. Their line is easy to follow. I think their cheapest reel is 19 dollars and goes up about 10 dollars for every level up you go in features and quality. They have a reel for everyone's budget. In the sienna what I am impressed with is the drag and the retrieve. The drag is smooth and the retrieve is pretty fast for a reel in this price range. Based on past history with Shimano they last the longest. 75 percent of the reels I own are Shimano and I have never had to throw one away. I bought this one for cat fishing or bottom bank fishing for my kids. Going after bigger fish with heavier line, this reel will be able to take the abuse. Owned this one for 2 years already, good as the day I bought it, even though it has been swimming and really dirty. The reason I did not give this reel 5 stars is because when comparing this reel to the stradic or symetre which are much better in quality but much more expensive it just is not at the high end of quality and features. But for the price there is nothing better.

After my old reel broke from one day of chum and coho salmon fishing, I bought the Sienna 4000FD. It works great. Handles the bigger fish no problem (I have only used it for salmon fishing). You definitely can't beat the price for this quality of a reel. If you need a good spinning reel, and don't have a lot of money, buy this one.

Man, you won't realize how good this reel is unless you compare it to the garbage that's sold at places like Wal-Mart, Sports Authority, etc. I thought spending $30-40 on a spinning combo was a good idea just for the occasional fishing, but boy was I wrong. I ran into nothing but troubles with those "combos" and ended up returning the garbage.

I didn't purchase this from Amazon but a local fishing supply store. I asked what they recommended for someone with a lower budget and they said this is a good start and better than the Penn reel I was originally looking at it. When I picked it up I could immediately tell the difference from the spinner combos I had been using prior.

This thing reels SMOOTH like butter and makes no noise or has any vibrations like I heard and felt on the spinning combos. This thing is pretty much all metal, including the reel arm which is usually plastic on cheap reels. Also this reel is VERY rust resistant compared to the combos. Even after spraying down the combo reels and scrubbing it with a nylon brush, the combo reels would show signs of rust everywhere including the screws all on the outside and also on the metal parts inside. I'll admit, I didn't always get to rinsing and scrubbing this reel down right after I was done with it but still no rust so far! Looks like brand new, even though I haven't had it for too long yet.

Guaranteed I'll be buying more of these reels, well at least this line of reels from Shimano. Never tried their other stuff so I dunno how it is.

If you're looking for a reel replacement, get it! You won't be disappointed and you'll never look back either, especially for the price. You may never find something better at this range.

Excellent reel for the money.I always take my new reels apart so i can clean, oil and grease them. The factory oil & grease isn't any good imo. This reel does everything i need it to do.Has a smooth drag, its light weight & it reels smooth.Only time will tell on durability but hey, it's a Shimano!!

Had this maybe a year now. puts the fun back in onshore fishing. pulled in 100s of mackerals and jacks, floundrers, speckeled trout you name it. very light and has lasted me this far and I fish a lot. just rinse it off very good as any reel and it will last you a long time.

The Shimano Sienna Fd Spinning Reel is a good product for a good price. If you want to buy the family heirloom reel, Shimano will sell you one for $500.00 or more, but for general fishing, this will more than serve the purpose and should last several years for a person who takes care of their gear. If you dip in in the salt water too much and or not rinse it after you come in from fishing, it will die quicker than if you care for it like it cost you $700.00 or so. No, then you wouldn't want to even take it fishing at that price, so save a lot of money, buy one of these when you have to and enjoy your time out fishing. This reel is smooth and really has a substantial drag, when cranked down for larger harder running fish, like Jack Crevalle, that bite and run south at full tilt. I like the look and feel of this not too expensive reel, that cost me only $37.69 with Free Shipping with my Prime Membership. I can pay that price and still smile at the billing receipt after holding and putting line on this reel. Of course, the price is lower now that I just brought mine home from it's first fishing trip! Tight lines.
