There's nothing I like more than a cover that breathes fresh life into a favorite song. This is one of those very rare occasions when the cover exceeds the original. This rendition stirs in me an emotional response that I never got from Nick Cave's original and, believe me, I had a very emotional response to the original. The thing that I really loved about this rendition is the multiple genres and disciplines represented in doing this reinterpretation: folk, rock, ballet, spoken-word, opera, symphonic, dance, chamber... etc. It's all here and it's blended seamlessly into a 4:35 epic achievement. About the only thing I can liken it to is the 1997 BBC Children in Need single featuring various artists performing Lou Reed's "Perfect Day." Another bonus of this rendition is exposure to excellent artists that I might never have heard of like Kev Carmody, Paul Kelly, Katie Noonan, Sarah Blasko, The Temper Trap, Angus and Julia Stone... You can find the complete video to this on You Tube and find out for yourself what a great rendition this is. Then you will HAVE to buy the mp3 single. Can't go wrong for 89 cents.
