I highly recommend this sweet little gem of a film.

This movie was terribly made, it was painful to watch, not worth the money spent, would not recommend this to anyone.

For an indie film, this was a surprisingly well-written story with very believable and likeable characters.

Why can't the big time Hollywood films get their act together, get rid of the formula we are all tired of, and let films like The Big Shot Caller shine through? I caught this film online and watched it again immediately after it ended. Very impressed with the director and storyline. Looking forward to more.

I caught this film last spring at the Quad Cinema when another film I
was going to see was sold out. I'm so glad it worked out that way. What
I came upon was a beautiful little indie about the power of believing
in yourself. Beautifully shot and genuinely written, this film is about
real life and real people. Everyone I was with could relate to the main
character and his difficulty in connecting. A poetic, intelligent and
sincere attempt at inspiring the everyday person, this lovely little
narrative has hilarious moments and wonderful quirks that you just
don't see in the plethora of superficial Hollywood movies. It moves
slowly at the beginning, and is somewhat reminiscent of Godard's
"Masculine Feminine." With the intermittent Spanish voice-over, it had
that "foreign film" feeling with a modern edgy New York style.
Basically, it was refreshing and unique. It is heartwarming and
somewhat spiritual, in a down-to-earth way. I would have liked to see
more Salsa dancing, but I delighted in the relationship between brother
and sister.

My husband and I really enjoyed this movie. It is earthy, authentic, refreshingly quirky, and has a lot of heart. It has a sincere message of hope and there are a lot of moving moments. Jamie (portrayed by David Rhein) is one of the most likeable characters we have seen in a long time. His gentle, quiet, sweet nature makes him instantly relatable. The director, Marlene Rhein, is also a very gifted actress as well as director. She plays the part of Jamie's supportive sister who is fighting with her own troubles with passionate fortitude. We look forward to seeing it again and will be on the look out for more Marlene Rhein movies.

Real-life sister-brother team Marlene and David Rhein are stunning in this lovely indie release. Ms. Rhein is a gifted actress as well as a great director, writer, and mesmerizing dancer. The movie strikes just the right balance between portraying the nitty-gritty of real life, and transporting the viewer in its exhilarating dance scenes. The music is great. Everyone should see this film!

I recommend for Salsa dance enthusiasts. You may see a part of yourself in the dancers journey. It goes away from Salsa and explores the main characters spiritual journey to find himself. It's good but does get a little off track. Salseros should definitely check it out.

I haven't written a review in a long time. I stumbled across this movie, watched it and fell in love with it. David Rhein is so touching as Jamie, a throwaway gentle soul. He has an eye condition that puts people off so they avoid him and he in turn learns to avoid people so he won't get rejected. Jamie is such a pitiful character because he desperately wants to connect with someone but he has given up and is pretty much an emotional zombie. Enter his older sister who sees Jamie's worth and encourages him to love and accept himself even though she too struggles with the same issues. Jamie begins taking salsa lessons and fails miserably at first but he never gives up. Seeing Jamie's dedication and determination to do one thing really well was moving. Supposedly this film was based on true events and it truly is inspirational. It is a character driven film so some might find it boring. I was never bored as the characters are so real I felt like I knew them and was seeing their struggles first hand. It also made me aware of my own insensitivity toward people who have visible "defects." At any rate I loved this film and have added it to my dvd collection. I highly recommend this sweet little gem of a film. 2/28/15

I recently watched this movie on Viewster. Viewster seems to have second rate movies, some not very good at all (except for the documentaries) but this movie was certainly the exception. I will most definitely view it again when i have the time. Excellent. To bad most Hollywood movies can't have the substance of indie films.

-For an indie film, this was a surprisingly well-written story with very believable and likeable characters. It was so refreshing, because it was the kind of film that everyone can relate to. Unlike the other fluff that's out there, this has a very valuable message and uplifting spirit. I'm buying this as a Christmas present for my students who love dancing.-
