This is better than your average indie horror flick. Sure, it is still a monster movie, but (surprisingly) with a character arc and interesting plot line. I don't want to give it away, but to summarize the premise, Ben's life is not going well. He is a drunk and an addict, but then we find out that he is trying to block out strange visions he has been having. He sees himself killing people, but he has no actually memories of anything like that. He meets up with a strange but beautiful woman, Nina who he finds out is part monster. Life gets a bit more complicated for poor Ben after that.

To it's merit, the film has some nice practical special fx, a superior musical soundtrack and above-average editing. I am making all of these comparisons to other indie flicks of the genre and not big budget studio films. Overall, an interesting, different-kind of horror movie and I am looking forward to seeing what director Brian Schiavo will come up with next. While some of the acting is good, some of the acting is unfortunately sub-par. Main character Sienna Aldridge is well cast as the icy mysterious other-worldly Nina.

Nina (Sienna Aldridge) is a 'Shriven', a creature that feeds (mainly) on human brains. They look like ordinary people until it's time to feed when they transform into a unique creature I've never seen in films. But more on that in a moment.

Ben (Brian Schiavo) is also a 'Shriven' but doesn't quite yet know it. It takes some kind of shock to the system. Somehow Nina finds him and recognizes a fellow creature and sets about to help him discover his inner monster. And this is where the film gets really stupid.

As mentioned they feed on brains. The amount of dead people in a local community with their heads torn open and the brains half-eaten would surely alert the police.

There's also a lame anti-Shriven exterminator team. They are not very convincing, and not really successful.

The most interesting bit is where Sienna Aldridge gets completely naked transforms and has small dorsal spines down her back as well as strangely enlarged and menacing spiky nipples. For some reason when she transforms she has to be naked, but Ben doesn't have to be.

Sienna's naked quite a bit. But not enough to sustain interest in a really stupid film.

To sum up, the main character gets mixed up in a twisted love affair with a rather unusual young woman. The love story is not what makes this movie great though. In fact, it seems a little bit forced at times. What really jazzed me about this movie was that it was a good old-fashioned monster romp with an amusing subplot. Suffice it to say certain people are turning into monsters, or Shriven as they are called here, and an unlikely bunch of investigators (a sub-par version of the FBI?) are trying to chase them down.

I got a new copy of this for under $2.00 from a seller. It turns out that this flick surprised me. I don't know what type of camera was used, but it appears to be shot on video. Yes, it's low-budget with a directing style that some may not like, but it certainly dishes out the exploitation. The story involves a traumatic incident that triggers a portion of a guys brain, which soon makes him become a monster, and he meets another woman who's also one of these creatures. Beginning really quick, the pace on this one is very fast. Within the first 5 minutes, there's a topless scene and blood. That guy then leaves his apartment and is shown to be developing an acute sense of hearing. It doesn't take long for him to meet Aldridge, who is that she-monster who likes to split or break peoples heads open. She gets fully nude in a sex scene, and she's also fully nude when she transforms into the creature; although the makeup and darkness sometimes obscures some the nudity. She kills some women in a sequence with another topless scene and breaks one of their heads open, and there's plenty more good stuff like this in the film. I can't guarantee that everyone will like the film style, but I thought this was a great low-budget flick. It's just a lot of carnage, violence, gore, and Sienna Aldridge is nude. It isn't meant to be analyzed and is simply made for the purpose of entrainment. It's just a fast-paced exploitation flick.

The quality is very good. A still gallery, behind the scenes and trailers are for the extras.

worst editing, worst story line...and WORST acting ever. It's a shame I had to give it any stars. Don't waste your money on this trash.
