Book Description

Monte wakes on a seemly ordinary morning to find an extraordinary event has occurred. An insidious sickness has cursed her hometown of Port Steward. Strangers, neighbors, friends and even her own family have fallen victim to the sickness. Monte soon discovers that a bite from someone with the sickness is how the gruesome disease is spread. Once infected with the sickness, it transforms normal people into ravenous monsters with a craving for flesh.

Monte struggles to make her way to safety in a town thriving with disease. As loneliness and paranoia set in, she finds that her newfound freedom from an abusive father is not all she’d hoped for. While faced with the near certain chance of defeat, Monte is unbending in her quest to stay alive, making grim decisions that test her humanity. With a tremendous will for survival, will Monte make it to salvation or fall victim, like so many others, of the sickness?

This short story is published as a "side-quel" to Endemic Rise of the Plague, book one in a trilogy, available now on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Monte is a go getter! July 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I like this story! Monte is a formidable young gal whose bound and determined to save herself. Just because she's a 16-year-old kid, don't count her out!
The story is carefully thought out along with being nicely worded. Jeannie Rae did an excellent job in making me feel Monte's anxiety and fear!

4.0 out of 5 stars nice short read January 14, 2013

I didn't have high expectations for this book but was pleasantly surprised. Monte is a sixteen year old girl who wakes up one morning to the walking dead scratching at her door. With nowhere to go she makes it out of the infected city into the hands of her protectors ....maybe... This is a fast read but an exciting one. If you like zombies, go ahead and get this one. There is a nice little twist at the end to keep you wanting just a little bit more.

4.0 out of 5 stars love it
There's so much zombie going on these days I expected the same tired story; but I assumed wrong. This is a well written, imaginative take and I really enjoyed it!

3.0 out of 5 stars It was pretty good
This book was a quick read. It was pretty straight forward. I would have liked to more of a twist, especially from the "backpack" situation.

2.0 out of 5 stars eh. at least it was free.
Short. Really short. Not enough detail. The character isn't really well developed. But it was easy to read. I wouldn't have paid money for it.
