The Silent Scream
– December 1, 2007
This is a story about a South African prostitute during the apartheid era and beyond.
Naive and powerless, she falls prey to the dark underworld of flesh peddling in 1985 when trying to support her two children. This narrative traces her working the local circuit and neighboring countries amid the tremendous upheavals when the ANC government takes over white rule. She experiences family life, disappointment, heartbreak and illness; getting trapped into drug addiction, slavery and severe depression. Only in 1998 does she find new hope, when the opportunity to travel abroad falls into her lap. The drama of true stories told by many people is projected onto her to experience. Fiction based solidly on fact. From the Publisher This is author Sulette Gardiner's first full-length novel. It will not be her last! She is currently writing her second, Supa Gogo, to be published in the spring of 2009. We predict equal success. She has also published poems about life in her native South Africa. About the Author I first attempted writing a novel when I was only fifteen years old but of course did not at that time have enough life experience to tell an interesting story. It was a very short and short lived novel although much appreciated by my peers at the time. My second attempt was in 1985. This manuscript is complete and stored away but needs serious tiding up which I plan on doing soon. I wrote my third novel, THE SILENT SCREAM while I was a cabaret dancer in Macau, Far East. I wrote this story in pencil on paper, back stage, while waiting for an audience to pop in. We were competing with the world soccer cup. Chinese and Portuguese people treat this event close to a religious experience. I am currently working on a South African fantasy called Supa Gogo. This is akin to a Harry Potter. Example; instead of wizards I use sangoma's, the local name for witches. I live in Durban South Africa, close to the beach. When not writing I like to spend time in the gym. --This text refers to the

Needless to say this got me into a whole lot of trouble. The darker side of life has always fascinated and attracted me. I have to know, why people do what they do. This curiosity of mine has led me down strange avenue's all my life. When I look back, I am amazed that I'm still alive to tell the tale. And my curiosity is increasing as the years go by.
