More About the Author

Jeff Cannon is the author of numerous books on meditation, spirituality and wellness. He is a member of NYU Hospital's Patient Advisory Board and a contributor to Huffington Post, MindBodyGreen and countless other websites and blogs.  He wrote The Simple Truth: Meditation for the Modern World in 2009 after which he founded The Simple Truth Project where he teaches Modern Meditation privately as well as through public workshops.

Jeff has survived 8 brain surgeries that removed more than 22 tumors in as many years. He has witnessed the evolution of neuroscience through each surgery first hand.  His first operation used a hand-drill in 1992.  His most devastating operation removed six brain tumors in 2009.  His latest surgery lasted 14 hours, after which he could not see, speak or stand.

Through each, Jeff has spent months watching his own brain heal and reboot itself.  He has spent years exploring how meditation can help to overcome the issues he has faced, and continues to amaze doctors and researchers with his ability to heal, to recover and to let go so that he can move beyond and live his life.

He now teaches others how to transform their lives through Modern Meditation - the union of traditional Eastern Meditation Practices and Western Science. It is a practice that refines traditional meditation techniques to better respond to the realities of the world we all live in.

The results is something our students call The Focused Calm through which to create transformational change in their lives.

This is such a wonderful take on simple, ancient teachings applied to our modern world. Jeff is a special person but still a regular guy who has experienced being caught up in the business and pressure of our world today. His story is profound and different parts of his experience are so easy to relate to.

The writing and tools are clear and convincing. He clearly lays out ways to connect to your health on a physical, mental, and spiritual level in very concrete terms. As soon as I started reading this book I began thinking of others I wanted to pass it on to or buy a copy for. This would be well suited for people who are results-driven and fact-oriented but are interested in new and savvy ways to achieve success. It will also work great for those who are into meditation, breathing, and following your gut sense but will enjoy getting more validation and explanation (for yourself and to explain to others) about how and why this way of living works.
Strongly recommended.

This book is excellent...that's the simple truth! We are fortunate that we only have to buy and read this book to gain the insight that was hard-earned by Mr. Cannon. Definitely the best way to start a new year!

Format: Paperback
In "The Simple Truth" Jeff Cannon shares his wisdom gained from over twenty years of meditation. He also had to deal with having brain tumors which made him think about life differently.

He begins his book talking about neuroplasticity and then delves into evolution which you may or may not believe in. He then explains how to get rid of the inner critical voice that can be so destructive. He also discusses how materialistic our society is and how not to be taken in by ever advertisement and commercials. He seems to be promoting a minimalist lifestyle.

If living mindfully is your goal then this book has a lot to offer. So this book is about much more than meditation although instructions are given for various types of meditation. I thought this section of the book was especially helpful. There is also a section on breathing correctly.

Overall this book is very thoughtful and a pleasure to read. I think your life will be better if you follow some of the advice in this book.

I came across this book quite by accident, compelled to read it only to support a friend of a friend! Boy, did I get lucky! In short order, I discovered that I had found a modern day master, and one who spoke directly to me. This is a book for anyone who is dedicated to living a conscious life.
Most of the concepts in this book were not new to me, as I have made it my life's mission to be present in my life. However, the unique manner in which the author takes these ancient ideas, practices, and wisdom, and distills them into a form suitable for use in our modern lives, is novel and makes this book well worth reading. He shares his experiences and his wisdom with the reader with such humility and compassion that it would be difficult for most to close their minds and souls to his brilliant message, his simple truth!
You will see positive changes in your life, long before you get to the last page. And then you just might read it a second time, as I am doing.

A clear and manageable approach to meditation and life purpose. I appreciated the no-nonsense explanations and recommendations. This book inspires you to take the first steps and continue on. The authors own life experience is woven into the book in a perfectly inspiring way. Unlike many self help books of this type, this book actually makes practical sense and the goals feel within ones capabilities and grasp, without over thinking and unnecessary complexity. Just remembering to incorporate breathing into my day has helped me tremendously. Keep this book nearby and reference often. It will remind you how to reconnect and see from the height of the souls vision on a daily basis.
