4.0 out of 5 stars The Most Challenging Simpsons NES game January 10, 2010
By JW

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I've been on a Simpsons retro gaming kick. I'm trying to get all the games back I rememeber as a kid and the Simpsons games were some of my favorites. I have Bart VS. World, Bartman Meets Radioactive Man, and of course this one. Bart VS. the Space Mutants is by far the hardest of the three. I actually had this game on Sega as a kid, and remember it being harder for Sega than NES. The reason being is I played this without a Walkthrough I got online. Without a walkthrough this game is almost impossible. I remember taking forever to figure out how to beat the first level, then when I finnally did I would die right away in the second level. What makes this game tough is it's not always clear where to go or what to do. A good example is on the 4th level there's two invisible platforms you have to jump on to beat the dinosaur. It can be frustrating to try to find something you can't see. However, don't let that deter you from this game. Like most NES games it's all about figuring out patterns and timing. With a Walkthrough or game FAQ this becomes a playable game. It's tough but there's only 5 levels all together. What makes it challenging is there's no continues in the game and two hits on Bart will cost you a life. You have to navigate the levels inch by inch and if you die you have to go back and play the previous levels to get back where you left off. With only 5 levels you would think it's a short game but again, it's challenging so beating a level takes a while. Once you beat a level though it becomes easier the next time around. For instance, I can blow by the first 3 levels but keep dying at the end of the 4th. The 5th level is the nuclear power plant which is a long level of figuring out combinations to beat the game. 1.0 out of 5 stars Don't even look at it! Even if you're a simpsons fan! January 10, 2013

I could not believe how terrible this game was. The controlls are sloppy and the gameplay is horrible. You cant do anything. If you pick up a weapon or something you cant do anything with it. Avoid this game!

5.0 out of 5 stars 23 YO Game still fun. August 21, 2014

Its exactly like I remember! My kids are like- Um... nice graphics, ma?

The game plays excellent for as old as the poor thing is (1991 was the YEAR... the game is 23 years OLD). I am still trying to remember all the tricks of the game, so we're all still on level 1. We'll get there.

5.0 out of 5 stars hard as nails, but fun September 28, 2008

I can't believe no one has reviewed this game so far. This is one of the NES's most interesting games, because it seemed like EVERYONE was playing it back in the day. Just when you think you were the only one who owned Bart vs. the Space Mutants, think again!

I figure I mine as well drop a review for this game to celebrate the Simpsons 20th season coming up.... later today (it's 3:30 am at the time I write this). 20 years of the greatest comedy ever created!

Well, the game is REALLY hard (it's the NES, what do you expect!!) The very first level is a skateboard level where you have to move around objects, and jump over them. It's a lot harder than it sounds. Maybe with some serious practice the game gets easier, I don't know, but I was struggling BIG time with this game as a kid, and continue to struggle with it.

My favorite memory was the giant Nintendo Power poster of this games cover that I hung up on the wall for years and years, until I thought I was too old to have posters on my wall so I took them all down. I still kept it though!
