A True The Sims Experience for PlayStation 3

In The Sims 3 players create Sims with unique personalities, fulfill their desires, and control their lives within a living gameworld. To a large extent this has been the case in previous console based The Sims games, but things are taken several steps further in this release. The Sims 3 features Sim creation functionality that is essentially the same as players enjoy on the PC platform, with the only appreciable difference being that the interface is optimized for game controller use. Players also enjoy improved and easy movement throughout the game by way of the standard controller layout, using the analog stick to move your Sims and the D-Pad for motions in the up/down directions in 3D space. Additional features include the ability to connect to the Sims Store and the greater online Sims community to share your creations and download content from other players around the world, without leaving your game, and the inclusion of life cycles and lifetime wishes, that can lead to ultimate happiness for Sims, if fulfilled.

New Karma Powers

Another major addition to the series in this release is the inclusion of the concept of Karma. The Sims 3 allows players can unlock all-new Karma Powers and unleash them on your Sims. These can be used to help your Sims get lucky with the power of "rapid romance", bless them with "instant beauty" or at the opposite end of things, curse them with the "instant enemy." Use these powers wisely, because they may have unexpected results. Either way, as you guide your Sims through life The Sims 3 allows you to complete opportunities to unlock items and rewards like never before.

Key Game Features

  • Create any Sim you can imagine - Fine-tune your Sims' appearances and create millions of different personalities. Make them evil, romantic, paranoid, kleptomaniacs, or a mix of something completely different.
  • Build and Customize - Build the ultimate home for your Sims, improve your town with building upgrades, and more.
  • Control your Sims' Destinies - Choose whether or not to fulfill your Sims' destinies by making their wishes come true, or letting their dreams die. Will your Sims be emperors of evil, world leaders, or expert thieves? It's up to you.
  • Build and Share Online* - Connect to share your creations and download content from other players around the world, without ever leaving your game.
  • Unlock All-New Karma Powers - Wield the ultimate control over your Sims giving them wealth, beauty, and love, or take it all away with the click of a button.
  • Complete Challenges to Earn Rewards - Face short and long term challenges and reap rewards. Connect and share your achievements with your friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally-the PC experience on a console November 16, 2010
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I have played practically every incarnation of The Sims since its debut (and Maxis games before that), and EA has finally brought the full experience to console. It has been a long journey with plenty of trial and error, and it certainly helps that console hardware now comes close to the power of PC gaming. I played Sims 3 on PC, but due to hardware issues and my disdain for EA's DRM technology I haven't spent my usual mini-lifetime within my sim's universe; I am thrilled to now have the option to play on the PS3. The game even seems enhanced. The added trophies, karma points and powers, challenges, and more fit in nicely, and the controls are easy to pick up. Challenge points can even be used to unlock content that would cost actual money on PC (like the steampunk collections).
There are only a few things that don't seem to flow, the major point being build/buy mode. It is so easy to switch in and out of build and buy on PC - just a click - but now I must hit the select button and navigate over to build/buy mode. The town map is also accessed from the select button menu. These things take away from the larger feeling of The Sims 3 PC version, especially since that aspect was one of the few improvements over The Sims 2 (PC). The continuity could be improved with Build/Buy and the Town Map being on a menu that is quicker to access. The town also seems small after playing the previous games with expansions. (Though I imagine there will be plenty of add-on content to come.) I don't think the loading times are bad, but I have been playing New Vegas. Anyone who has played Sims with about six expansions installed will think the loading times are lightning-quick.
The slight annoyances do not take away from the full game experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its great but..... December 4, 2010

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The pc version has more items and other options however I find sitting behind a computer annoying so I had to pick this up on black Friday for 30$. I enjoy it because I can just sit back and relax with my controller and have fun. As for the game itself it has gotten extremely easy sense the debut of the original which I still have and love. Although I do enjoy playing the Sims 3 more because instead of being worried about comfort and room the mood bars they took out it is less stressful and a more enjoyable experience. I like how many more skills there are and if you are into platinum trophies, this one will please you because its about 60 hours of game play for platinum. Whats pleasing about it is not only the time it takes but you will enjoy it! The Sims 3 is VERY fun and their are no hard annoying trophies just time consuming one like, fulfill 1000 wish's or 250k happiness points, but you will get this over time. Their is this new option called karma and its REALLY FUN because you can just mood boost your character before you go to work and get that raise or promotion. Buy this for any Sims lover or for your teen, better yet for yourself.

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I have experienced all three console versions of The Sims 3 and I DO NOT recommend any of them. To be honest, I am not sure why so many reviews are saying that the PS3 version of Sims 3 is "great" , "just like the PC experience" , "amazing" , "magnificent" and why the only bad reviews seem to be focused on "corrupt saving". Perhaps these people picked up the game and only played it for a short while, have no experience with the PC version or versions in the past.

Because I have played this game for quite a while now and I have been experiencing one difficulty after another! There are so many GLITCHES, so many LIMITATIONS, so many STUPID THINGS that just make NO SENSE that I am finally so frustrated and disappointed that I am at the point where I may not play the PS3 Sims 3 again.

First and for most, here is possibly the biggest CON to the game:
You CANNOT switch Active Households.

That's right, you absolutely, under any condition, can EVER switch your active household. If you woo a sim-neighbor and get married to them guess what? They are moving into YOUR house. Even though they have a fully functional house it is completely OFF LIMITS to you and you will never be able to live in it or any of the other houses not selectable through the "Move Out" option.

This also means that when you have children and they grow up you cannot switch between their new families and your mother + father family. You cannot switch period. You can move out with the children and leave the parents behind. And the only way you can ever play the parents again is by befriending them and asking them to move into your current house with you.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS GAME February 22, 2013
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
First off, Sims is NOT designed for PS3
so right off the bat I knew I was getting a game that was going to lag and load a lot.
Know what you're getting into, people!

PROS:
- higher graphics
- wider variety of objects, buildings, locations, Sims, emotions, etc.
- slow-to-fill fire bar

CONS:
- Lags a lot due to loading
- No direct Sim control like in Sims2

To put it simply, a PC's gaming platform is higher than a PS3
so this is an adaptation from the PC version to a PS3-friendly version.
Nevertheless, it gets pretty slow sometimes.

The world of Sims has greatly improved since Sims2
with new objects, house floors, cars, locations, clothes, designs, etc.
One of the greatest contributions Sims3 makes is the fire bar
which now takes longer to fill unlike Sims2 which fills up in seconds.

Overall,
5/5
