download went fine, fun expansion
on September 6, 2012
I was worried about the other reviews on here for the digital download, but the game downloaded fine for me. Took maybe an hour between buying it and being able to play it, because of course once I downloaded the expansion I couldn't install it right away, due to an update being required on the base game. So ~2 GB for the expansion, then another ~1 GB for the base game patch.
The game so far has been a lot of fun. It's actually made me grin some with neat little touches I've seen. I'm going all-out supernatural with my family, having a werewolf, a vampire, a witch, and a fairy. The fairy is perhaps the neatest so far. I saw a little fairy house (looks like a birdhouse) in a garden and thought "oh, okay, just a new static decoration." Nope, all of a sudden my full-size fairy Sim shrinks down to a little glowing orb, zips into the fairy house, and takes a nap. What?! When two fairies meet up, they will shrink down to little light orbs and "Fairy Frolic." They're basically adorable. I love that fairies seem inclined to play tricks on people, too, so they're kind of mischievous pixies.
I'm loving the style of the new objects, clothing, and hair, too. It's very Victorian, and some of the fairy outfits make me giggle. I'm reminded a bit of Makin' Magic's style of semi-gothic furniture. I'm super excited to see what else there is, since I haven't done anything with magic or alchemy yet, and I haven't gotten Bonehilda as a maid or anything. Zombies pop out of the ground during the full moon, and they're fairly entertaining. I have to make a zombie myself! I played all evening and can see this expansion keeping me occupied for a good while to come.
