With new places to go and tons of new stuff to do once you get there, The Sims 3 University reminds me of the Sims 3 World Adventures expansion pack. As soon as your Sim is an adult, they now get the option to go off to the Sims University. When you start the game, the university sports team mascot pays a visit to your home and drops off a welcome kit. Inside is an aptitude test your sims can take to see if they have enough skills to qualify for a full or partial scholarship to help you pay for their schooling. After you find out how much you qualify for, you can head over to the nearest computer or just pick up your phone and enroll in school. Once you do, you leave your home, much like when your sims take a vacation. Instead of setting the number of days you want to be gone and to which destination you want to visit, you choose how many credits you want to attend to work on getting, and you chose your degree. You can chose from Business, Technology, Science and Medicine, Fine Arts, Communication and Physical Education.

Once you leave for school, you can chose to live in a dorm with others, rent your own house or stay in a sorority house. Once you pick out where you want to live, you go inside with everyone else and claim which bed you want for your own. The dorms are large and there's lots to do. Pools, game rooms, workout equipment, large sitting areas with study materials and fully equip kitchens are all at your disposal. The dorms are filled with lots of other sims as well, so there's no shortage of new friends to be made.

While enrolled, your sim has certain responsibilitys to attend to in order to graduate. They need to attend classes, study their materials, take exams and work with their "skill object" that they are assigned to for their chosen degree.

This review was updated after further play. Asterisk's indicate new info!

I bought the original Sims game the week it came out on a whim. I didn't leave my house for two days. I've been hooked ever since, and have bought every expansion pack for Sims, Sims 2, and Sims 3. I wouldn't call myself an addict as I don't play every day (and in fact don't play for months sometimes), but I would call myself a devoted fan.

I come from the perspective of enjoying Generations, Ambitions, and World Adventures the most. I find Late Night and Pets to be pretty okay, and Showtime, Supernatural and Seasons to be somewhat annoying (though I love certain elements of all of them.)

For someone who loves new interactions and new experiences more than new types of characters, you will love this ep. It is based on real life experiences with an exaggerated touch of whimsy as expected. For anyone that has gone to uni and tried to juggle a full academic schedule with a social life, this will be a friendly reminder and perhaps you can act out how you would have done it if you had a do-over :)

Questions I had about the game:

Is there a new life phase for college? No, you are eligible to go as a Young Adult or older, teens have no way to go early at this point.

Is it expensive? Even for the most expensive semester, you will be paying less than 5000 simoleans, but I'll have to write down the exact number and update.

Are there scholarships? Yes, you can get scholarships based on skill levels, and what your major is in relation to those skills. A mascot will arrive soon after starting the game and leave a college freebie pack, in it will be an aptitude test your sim can fill out to determine if they're eligible.

I always loved Sims 2 University; it was always my favorite expansion pack, so needless to say, I couldn't wait for this one. And boy am I not disappointed!

I'd always wanted the chance to really explore a college town in the Sims without all the waiting, unlike Sims 2, and now you have the chance. As your Sim starts school - on a Sunday, so you have all day to play around - you can go buy some comic books, get an herbal tea and a bagel (!), and maybe sketch or hold a protest.

Between classes and managing the social aspects of Uni Life, time is stretched thin, but that's what coffee is for! (Also, don't register your Sim for 18 credits right away - what a mistake!) There are a lot of parties and gatherings, but I find the most fun in rushing around trying to get all the work required for good grades done. Also, I might have made my Sim have an affair with a professor ;)

This expansion pack really has it all: new clothes and hairstyles (all of which are very cool and college-y), great new furniture, fun daily wishes and great new lifetime wishes. I think if you were going to spend your money on any expansion pack, this one (and Seasons) is it!

Happy Simming!

I was really excited about this expansion, so much so that I was willing to shell out the full price for it instead of waiting 6 months to get it cheaper. Honestly, I wish I had waited. It's not that University Life is BAD, it's just that it's not worth $40.00.

To sum up my feelings about this expansion: it's ok. The concept is great - hurray, we can FINALLY give our sims a little higher education! - and you get some nice clothes, hairstyles, and personality traits, but the actual gameplay of going to university is fairly dull, and there are multiple little annoyances that add up to make the experience a little tedious. I don't want to re-hash what some other reviewers have said, so I'll just touch on things:

- Yes, for some inexplicable reason, your sims wake up automatically at 6am.

- Each university term is just a week long. It starts automatically on Sunday, regardless of what the day is when you enroll. While your sim is at university, I'm fairly sure your town "freezes" (I'm not 100% positive about this, but I think that it MUST be the case, since university always starts on Sunday. If your town didn't "freeze" while you were playing your university sim, it would have to weirdly skip a few days). This messes with the feeling of continuity in your game.

- It takes FOREVER to get anywhere on campus! I guess if your sim has a car it wouldn't be as much of a problem, but mine did not and it took him nearly TWO HOURS to get from his dorm to his class.
