I read some of the negative reviews and delayed purchasing this a while. In the end though, I took the plunge and risked it. It turned out to be a great investment.
Despite what I heard about Origin being horrible, it worked totally fine on my MacBook Pro(2009). You download a file from Amazon that gives you a code. Then download Origin(you'll need to sign up for an account if you don't have one) & enter the code into the Origin "client." It begins downloading and does a pretty good job - you can pause the download and it saves your already downloaded data. Once downloaded, installation is a breeze & quick.
Items of Note:
1. This purchase & install method(buying from amazon) worked totally fine with my NON-origin copy of the Sims(base game). I bought the Sims base game on a totally different site a while back and downloaded it through gametree. Luckily, Origin recognized the game and thus allowed me to install this Island Paradise expansion with no problems.
2. You DO need to update your Sims 3 base game to install this expansion so if you are behind or starting from the original version(like me), go ahead and start downloading the update. It can take quite a while.
3. The Island Paradise expansion thus far is phenomenal. Not only is the world rather huge, but it's diverse and has tons to do & explore. In the base game and Late Night, working to get more items & wealth was the only thing that kept the game interesting. In this game, you actually may not want to send your sim to work because you have so much to do instead. This is not a minor expansion, this is not a small update, this is a full-on game in it of itself. It really appears as though the devs worked hard on this one to bring totally new functionality to the Sims like boating, snorkeling, scuba diving, playing in the ocean, etc. So far, I'm very impressed.
