First off, I've got to say that I loved all the songs on this CD. Any flaws here aren't on the groups' shoulders but on the people in charge of song selection.

For example, the first five songs on the CD were already released on iTunes in December, so including them on a second CD makes little to no sense, on NBC's part. I still am not entirely sure why they wouldn't record other favorites from the four finalists, to work the fans into a bigger frenzy over the show, the performers, and the CD in general. The same goes for the question of why they'd limit the CD to 11 (or 13, if you bought the version including live versions of "Use Somebody" and "With a Little Help from my Friends") songs when the CD could easily fit more.

Beyond that, I only had minor issues with the CD. I was a bit disappointed in the translation of some of these songs from the small clips we heard on The Sing-Off and the full-length, extended versions. For some of the groups, like Groove for Thought, the sound is nearly identical to what we heard on-screen, but some of the songs sound completely different. This is most apparent in The Whiffenpoofs' "Grace Kelly," where the solo's vocal style did a 180 and the background vocals felt off (especially in balance) compared to the "live" version. There was also more studio work present than I personally prefer (especially on Street Corner Symphony's "Creep"), but if you're a fan of contemporary a cappella and have listened to recent a cappella CDs, it'll be pretty par for the course, and if you don't build up a tolerance for it, you're going to end up restricting your listening choices almost to nil.

Overall, the songs themselves--and the groups especially--are wonderful. All the problems I could find with the CD involved the song choices and "studio magic," the latter of which is a matter of personal taste.

There were simply not enough songs on the one CD. It could have been a 3 or 4 CD set to encompass all of the wonderful music we heard during the course of the season. Give us more!

Love this cd. If you liked the show, you will love having these acapella tunes on hand. There may be 1 or two songs I am not too crazy about, but the rest is perfect. Just what you expect from watching the show.

I watched Season 2, and ordered this CD right away. Today I opened it, listened to it all afternoon, and these were my reactions.

On the first listen, I didn't like Beautiful Day (all groups together), but it's growing on me. I really enjoyed all the individual groups' songs except Groove for Thought and the Whiffenpoofs - I thought they were tiresome after just a few times hearing them. My absolute favorites are those done by Committed and Street Corner Symphony, and I enjoyed these studio versions of their songs as much as I did the originals done on the show. I remember that Pitched Slapped was voted off early, so I was surprised that their "Good Girls Go Bad" is now one of my favorites to listen to. I'm also really enjoying Men of Note's "Take a Bow".

I truly believe that all I am hearing are the voices of the group members. I think that these folks are just incredibly talented and can reproduce the sounds of percussion, etc, beautifully. Congratulations to all of you!

This is an enjoyable CD, especially if you saw and heard the songs performed on the TV show.
Street Corner Symphony came in second in the competition and I believe they should have been the
top winners. There is plenty of good music on this compilation. I recommend it to anyone who likes acappella music.

A CD with good music. You don't even miss the music in most of the songs. If you like this CD and style of music you should check out Committed and Straight No Chaser. They are even better.

What were they thinking?
I totally agree with you 1,000 percent! Although I did enjoy those first 5 songs, I liked many others, too--including the specific ones that you suggested.

missing my fav song
This album has a few good songs, but does it reflect the Best of the Sing-Off 2? I don't think so! Whoever produced this thing should have selected the 1-2 best songs of each group and combined that with the Intro Songs (all groups together). That would be an album I would buy. I'll pass on... Read More
