I would say this is for hard core Sing Off fans only. My family happens to fit in that category. We love Sing Off, but had missed the first season. We own the 2nd and 3rd season on "Instant" and also loved the 4th season.

The good (4 stars for content):
It was interesting to watch this from a series historical perspective. For instance, the vocal and choreography had MANY different styles in the first episode as the groups were were trying to figure out what the judges wanted. One of the groups on the first episode was a little painful to watch. In following seasons, you can tell groups have learned from past shows and the quality of all contestants is higher.

It was fun to watch the groups and judges find their way and by the 3rd episode the groups were much better and the show had the more polished Sing Off feel.

The BAD (2 stars for audio/video quality):
Love this show or I would have given this an overall 2 stars due to poor video and audio quality.

There is no HD version of season 1 and it is really hard to watch standard resolution on today's large HDTV screens.

My larger concern though was the sound. After all, this is a singing show. The sound was sometimes good and sometimes really bad. The mikes for many of the highly choreographed groups were face mounted mikes. Frequently you could only hear some of the singers. This led to situations where the judges were praising groups that just didn't sound very good to us. On other episodes where the sound was better, you could understand why the judges liked them. Frankly in many cases the sound had the same problems that I sometimes hear at high school productions. If Mics aren't placed properly and properly balanced between the singer's volumes, it just doesn't sound very good. Before they released this on Instant, they should have re-mixed the sound to adjust the volume properly between the various mikes.

I was surprised to see the show only received 2.5 stars, but after reading the few reviews, it seems that the some of the criticism is not about the show but the quality of the video. We bought the whole season (4 episodes-SD) through Amazon Instant Video, and the picture quality was excellent (a lot of it depends on your internet speed). Each episode is long (1.5 hours or more?), and each one is packed with performances. There are no commercials, so it really is enjoyable. The music was amazing. The performances were first rate. The judges were fun (although they should have spent more time getting to know one another before the show-- there is very little interplay). I actually liked Nick Lachey on the show, although my husband thought he was boring.

I would highly recommend this. It is stunning that there are no instruments. The way they sang and arranged music was a joy to hear. We watched it as a family and we are looking forward to watching next season.

I first saw this show during the second season and was blown away by the talent of all the groups. I ordered the second season and was curious about what I had missed from season one. Season two is my all time favorite.

Great to see the Sing-Off episodes with no commercial interruptions !! I love to watch the opening performance of "Pressure". I watch it over and over and it doesn't get old. My favorites groups in Season One are The Bubs from Tufts University, Nota and The Socals. Special mention goes to Solo. They have so much potential, although they were voted off. They're so young and talented that I hope to see Solo again in the near future making music. Nick Lachey did a great job hosting. He should have participated in singing in this first season. I'm glad they had him join in the performances in Season 2.
