I have been involved in jail/prison ministry for 3 years now, where I minister in the facilities a minimum of once a week. My husband and I are expanding the ministry and are adding new members to our ministry team, so I was looking for material we could use to assist us in training the new members. I was very disappointed in this book as the author speaks of the ministry God has given him within the jail, and how Jesus loves each and every inmate. But I have to say that it broke my heart to hear the names he called some of the inmates that have been in his jail. I put the book down half way through because I was tired of the derogatory stories he told of these inmates who were suffering from drug addiction, mental illness, and broken lives. This book is NOT a good choice if you are wanting to learn to minister the love and grace of Jesus Christ. However, if you want an idea of what it's like to work in a jail, this MIGHT be a good choice of material. Honestly, if your goal is to learn more about jail/prison life and what the corrections officers have to deal with on a daily basis, you're better off to watch "American Jail" or "Lock Up" on cable.

This was an excellent book. It takes you into the world of correctionds and gives insight to a world that the average citizen never sees. it also puts a human face on those who work in our nations correctional facilities. Easy to read. A good page turner!
