As a single father raising two children, I was looking for and expected a lot more specific and practical helpful advice. Its an easy read, but I estimate this book to be approximately 90% "encouragement".

I think this is a book the author would have liked to have available when in this same circumstance, but it may be better categorized for most people as a 'spiritualistic' guide than a plain survival guide. Author does a good job covering the need to take care of yourself while taking care of a family and to get help when needed.

I do NOT recommend it to men needing specific help with problems.

I DO recommend it to men looking for encouragement and fundamental Christian Bible passages to help you through problems.

I ordered this book and only upon receiving it did I realize that it was written from a Christian perspective. I think a disclaimer would have been useful: Warning - God-Based, or something like that. This guy, upon discovering his daughter has just had her period, goes out and buys her a rose and a card "containing a statement she could use as a budding woman in service to God."
Is that creepy, or is it just me?
Anyway, I think the book is completely hopeless.

I was reffered to this book by the website AllProDad. The website is for dads of all walks and is run by Mark Merrill and former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy.

I am a 41 yr old single dad of 2 boys (15 and 9) Very similair to Mr. Klumpp my ex wife is still alive and lives fairly close but for many reasons is not involved in the care of the boys. I am in a committed relationship with an amazing woman now and I was just talking with her about how most people don't have a clear picture of what a "single dad" looks like. Even she still has the benefit of co-parenting with her ex husband. He is her ex but is still a big part of their kids lives which I think is great. I do have a support system but not a co-parent. The book is an easy read and gives some good insight into things like too much "man" in the house. Mine has definitely been guilty of that. I commend him for his efforts in selflessly raising his children while leading them to Christ at the same time. I am trying to do the same thing myself and this book has helped give me some motivation and hope that I was needing.
