2.0 out of 5 stars where did the love come from? January 13, 2014
By Lydia
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved most of the books in the house of pleasure series by Kate Pearce, so of course I was excited to read her next series! But to be honest, I couldn't figure out how the h&h fell in love, Jack didn't spend half as much time with Mary as he did with Simon, and he was constantly having sex with Simon! To be honest I felt like Mary was the third wheel, and that Simon and Jack where the main love interest. I understand that sleeping with Simon was just for pleasure for Jack, and they didn't have deep feelings for each other, but it took away from the relationship between Jack and Mary, and that actually ruins the story a little bit for me. I'm still looking forward to the next book in the series, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

2.0 out of 5 stars Way too much gay sex. July 14, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When more than half the sex scenes are mm (and the very rare mmf), well that's just too much gay sex for me.
The title of the book was The Sinners Club, and there was 5 or less scenes set in the actual club. The club was the far more interesting aspect of the book, and not the anal penetration of Simon by Jack and vice versa.
When did Jack find time to fall for Mary during all the action he was getting with Simon? This book makes no sense!
Thanks Kate, I got a deal on this one, but I won't be buying another book from you, and if I paid anywhere near full price for this- I would have stopped by the second sex scene (spoiler: gay sex), and requested a refund. I've read enough mm action to last me a lifetime!

4.0 out of 5 stars DIRTY June 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Cripes. Sometimes you just have to have something naughty and titillating, something different from ordinary. If you're not into genitalia and are looking for classic romance with standard hero/heroine tropes, you'll want to look elsewhere.

This is what you reach for when that "mood" strikes.

If guy-on-guy isn't something you are able or willing to explore, you'll want to look elsewhere. If you're even the slightest bit curious about how that would even work, look no further. Both sensual and explicit, this book explores "forbidden" sexuality.

While "yaoi" (or gay male sexuality) isn't usually my "thing", this story hooked me. Slightly insufferable male protagonists go head to head, and end up tangled up in bed. The plot isn't bad, either.

When the "sister" joins the play, I was pleasantly surprised at how deftly handled the scenes were. Fraught with meaning, but wonderfully erotic.

I am not ashamed to admit, I read this book in one shot and enjoyed it immensely.

I agree that the sudden "love" for the heroine was maybe not as well-plotted as it could, or should, have been, but for me, it worked. Love, for me, wasn't the point. It was sex and exploring boundaries, and in that this book succeeded admirably.

Man oh man was this book a pleasant surprise. I hadn't expected so much m/m action, but damn...those scenes were most definitely HOT. I can honestly say that this book had me completely enthralled from the beginning. Right when I thought I had the plot figured out, I was proven wrong. Ms. Pearce did an excellent job at conveying the lengths that the aristocracy went to disguising their sexual preferences. All in all, while the romance wasn't overly sappy as you would expect in a traditional historical romance, The Sinners Club proved to be quite diverting with the conflicted romances between the protagonists. I'm looking forward to the second installment Tempting The Sinner this July.

If you enjoy explicit romance scenes that are m/f, m/m, voyeurism, and light bondage, this one is for you.

Well. The Sinners Club...was quite the surprise. A fun one. But, damn, a surprise. Starting with...a lot of male on male sex. *blinks* Yeah. I, uh, didn't see that coming. LOL Really nothing was as I expected with this one other than it being one hell of a steamy and entertaining read. The characters were charming and damaged, the romance...rather peculiar but intriguing and the storyline filled with twists and curiosities. Which was all just excellent.

The quick of it is that Jack has found out he's to inherit a title. Only when he arrives he finds the former earl's wife...pregnant with a potential heir. And his dreams of having a home of his own kind of crash down around him. But all is not as it seems on either side.

I really liked all three of the main characters--Jack, Mary, and her brother Simon. They're an interesting combo of being secretive and yet upfront and bold which really keeps you on your toes wondering the full story. The three had a great rapport going and I liked watching them feel each other out. They all had inklings the other side--Jack vs Mary and her brother-- was hiding something and engaged in a bit of a game with each other to find out the truth. I don't usually like games in my romances like that but it actually really worked this go around.

Now, this one wasn't your typical boy meets girl and falls in love story. It's definitely a romance but things are more...fluid. And attractions aren't limited to just Jack and Mary. All three are very open about their enjoyment of sex, all of it's varieties and combinations and they're pretty free with indulging their desires for each other. Which was...interesting.

So. Those steamy bits. Yep. I've officially read my first male on male sex. Hello! It really was a surprise.
