It's nice to find a fantasy that isn't over four hundred pages. Many students love the big thick ones, but not all of them can read those kind of books. This is an appropriate book for reluctant readers who need constant action to keep them reading. The action starts in chapter one with Trundle, a humble and content lamplighter, is abruptly drawn out of his peaceful life into a world of pirates, theft, and slavery. The action doesn't stop, leaving the reader waiting for the sequels (luckily the second book comes out in October).

There was not a whole lot of description or world-building, which I found disappointing. I love to read in great detail about worlds both real and imaginary. The character-building is also rather sparse, the focus is on the action. I didn't feel like I knew much more about the characters than I did at the beginning. Some additional background would have been appreciated by myself. But like I mentioned above, the book works well for a reader who doesn't need those things and prefers lots of action.

The illustrations helped me visualize the world better than the text did on its own. The book as a whole reminds me of Brian Jacques' Redwall series, except for younger readers. I'd recommend this series for animal fantasy fans who aren't quite ready to tackle thicker more description-heavy tomes.

Trundle is a lightkeeper whose highlight in life is going home to his cabbage soup and tea. One evening, when he goes home for the night, he meets Esmeralda, a Romany hedgehog who is on the run from a nasty group of pirates.

She claims that Trundle is the lightkeeper in a prophecy that involves the two of them finding the six badger crowns that will save the world. The pirates who are after her, however, are bent on her not reaching her goal.

Can Trundle and Esmeralda find the six crowns and save the world?

A fun adventure for early chapter-book readers. The characters are well-developed and memorable, and the plot is fairly well-done for a beginning fantasy story. Those who like fantasy, action-adventure, animals, or pirates will enjoy reading TRUNDLE'S QUEST.

An exiting adventure set in magical land where ships fly and two unlikely heroes set out to fulfill an ancient prophecy and find the six crowns. Can Trundle and Esmeralda fend off the evil pirates and overcome unforeseen obstacles in time to save their world?

Young readers will enjoy jumping aboard the sky boats with these two courageous hedgehogs as they set out on an unforgettable journey full of danger, and action. Trundle's Quest is set in a world unlike any I've read about before. It's a unique, exciting place I enjoyed visiting, where animals are like humans, and the pirates are just as ruthless as any other pirate story I've read.

Esmeralda is a feisty, brave, doesn't stand down in the face of danger character I liked getting to read about. Trundle who starts off a little more timid, when he comes face to face with danger he becomes a brave young hero who stands his ground. Both of these characters were fun to meet and I'm really looking forward to reading more about their adventures.

Based on Trundle's Quest alone, this series is already off on the right direction. With it's thrilling adventure, unforgettable characters, and must see illustrations, Trundle's Quest is a fantastic fantasy chapter book I recommend picking up. I'd recommend this book to younger readers who like fantasy, animals, adventure, and pirates.
