Editorial Reviews

Product Description

THE SIXTH SIDE OF THE PENTAGON is a first-person documentary on the October 1967 March on the Pentagon for the Mobilization to End the War in Vietnam, with Marker filming in the midst of the often violent protest. It is a remarkable time capsule and a reminder of an historic turning point in the opposition to a long and unpopular war.

One of Chris Marker's few fiction films, THE EMBASSY shows political dissidents seeking refuge in a foreign embassy after a military coup d'état in an unidentified country.

Review

Eloquent... Impressive... Chris Marker is among that rare breed of men in whom the currents of political engagement and searching human honesty reinforce and enrich rather than antagonize each other. --Larry Loewinger, Film Quarterly

A trenchant political allegory. --Catherine Lupton, Chris Marker: Memories of the Future

Its about time that we can find Chris Marker's films on dvd from a reliable source. These two companion films play off each other very well, all in the one of a kind style of Marker.

We had worked in the San Joaquin Valley of California running programs to help Mexican-American farm workers and moved to DC to work for an international self-help housing program. Shortly after our move to DC we attended the Mobilization to End the War in Vietnam. There was such a large crowd that it was difficult to tell what was happening. One thing was clear: the police and military were attacking the anti-war protesters and many were seriously injured. It was a frightening experience. The Chris Marker film does a good job of capturing the actions of the protesters on both sides.
