**** (Featured Review) - Lies, deception and betrayal are watchwords in this intricate Ylendrian Empire tale. No one can be trusted and even the good guys have secrets. - RT Book Reviews (March 2012 Issue)

Book Description

Just when bounty hunters Tal and Vanya finally corner their number-one quarry—and object of their mutual fantasies—conman Kellen Frey turns the tables and turns himself in. An attack of conscience? Hardly.

Nothing gives Kellen more pleasure than leading his two favorite bounty hunters on a merry chase, but he’s at the end of his rope. He’s been accidentally dosed with an illegal nanotechnology, and if he doesn’t get another dose soon, he’s finished—and so is the entire Ylendrian Empire. Time to hole up and come up with plan—while trying to resist their rising desire…

The secondary characters were numerous but important, and also well done.

I was surprised my how much I loved this story. It grew on me a little slowly in the beginning, and I definitely liked it at the end, but then after a few hours to let it settle in my mind, it just got better.

First, I loved the complexity. Each of the three characters were distinct and fascinating. The world was well fleshed out, but not just dumped on your head like from an encyclopedia. The secondary characters were numerous but important, and also well done. The plot was twisty and, again, fascinating. I loved the heist. I loved the slow slide into love.

Second, I liked that the characters would be so hard to typecast, but if you did, it wouldn't be the same old thing. Romance is chock-filled with m/f/m alpha/heroine/alpha combos, and this so isn't that. It's more like f/m/m, dangerous beta heroine/mincing hero/alpha hero. Except, this menage is definitely a circle. Everyone has a complex relationship with everyone else, and then there's a big group relationship.

And did I mention fascinating? This seriously might be the best written set of caper plot twists I've read in romance. Even the writing greats (in romance) tend to resort to "someone gets captures.. then someone rescues them" to fill their quota of non-romance.

I definitely agree that this one is not your usual menage story. I actually do not READ m/f/m menages as a matter of rule and the only reason I picked this one up is because I liked mm story these authors published and wanted to try more of their writing. I was so not dissapointed. It is an exciting fast paced sci fi story, it is also a love story full of explosive tension between all three people in it. Nobody feels an extra wheel, as another reviewer said it is a circle more than a menage and you cannot help but root for all three of them to make it.

That's because it's an *actual* ménage à trois -- a household of three -- rather than the corrupted meaning of "threesome". If you're looking for a story where the plot is a flimsy excuse for three hot people to jump into bed, you're going to have to keep looking.

For those of you looking for a story featuring, well, an actual *plot*? You're in SUCH luck. Slipstream's plot takes Vanya, Tal, and Kellen from a space-station to various planets; from uneasy truce to actual trust; from near-death to the sprouting of a new kind of life.

If you're looking for a jerkface "alpha male" and his Too Stupid To Live damsel-in-distress wife, you're going to be sorely disappointed. Tal, Vanya, and Kellen aren't *perfect*, but they don't fall into stereotypical roles, either -- one of many things I love about Reesa and Michelle's writing.

Tal's honor, Vanya's lack of enthusiasm for mornings (even on a space ship), Kellen's complete lack of remorse over sharing his art with everyone, the way Michelle and Reesa slip humor into the interstices, the ending, Chapter Eight... I could go on and on, but I'd start getting into spoiler territory. By turns sweet, intriguing, and funny, The Slipstream Con is a great read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has all the components to impel any reader into forsaking sleep to read just a little bit longer. What might those components be, you ask?
